Yup. Ruger 1911. A little large for a carry. Gonna get a hold of a 380 in a bit. Right now the 1911 is in the glove box. Check out these guys...http://www.gumcreekcustoms.com
Gonna grab me one of these soon. Rembember, check your states laws to see if yours is a free carry state.

Looks like a fairly small gun but fits in there nicely.

I virtually never leave home unarmed. My sidearm stays in my holster when in my car or truck, openly carried, with the shoulder best tucked between the grip and my body so that I can access it in a hurry if necessary. When I leave my vehicle, I conceal my sidearm (don't have to do this in my state but I do anyway). Most of the time, my carry piece is either a Glock 19 or 23 (I have gen3 and gen4 versions of these guns), or one of my M&P 9 Shields.

A gun left at home is useless when out and about. Carry everywhere that's legal. Unless you have a crystal ball, you are not going to know when you might need your best friend.

Glock 30S in IWB holster in driver side door (I am left handed) readily accessible. Keep one in the chamber so shes ready to go if needed. I run 13 round mags from my Glock 21 and 41 for a total of 14 rounds of .45acp fury on the road...

    That's the way it's intended.

I carry a CZ P01 most days, but it stays in the car nearly all the time sadly due to where I have to travel and not allowing me to bring it along. I make use of the glove box, lock it with valet mode when I have to leave it behind. Not ideal, but works till I figure something else out.

I just keep it in my holster. I swap between an EMP 9mm, G19, Shield 9mm, MPc 9mm mostly...occasionally an LC9 if pocket carrying. I'm a big collector though but in FL I stick to carrying smaller/lighter ones.

If I have to leave one in my car I throw it in the trunk either next to the spare or next to the BO amp.

Why would they blow your mind. Some people like to golf, some like to collect stamps, some play tennis, and some enjoy shooting. Simple as that.

A sidearm is most always best left in its holster on one's person when being carried and not in use. That is the safest method and affords the least amount of handling the gun such as going from a console or glove box to one's person. However, there certainly can arise extenuating circumstances requiring a change in one's routine.

I try to never leave a gun in my gun when leaving the car. If that car gets stolen, then I have just given a loaded firearm to a BG. Not a good thing.

I have a number of handguns in my carry stable but I most always rely on a few select candidates when going out. I train often, every two weeks, and carry everywhere I can. Even in banks, police stations, libraries, restaurants, and host of other places. I have done this both openly and concealed, though for the past year, I have been going concealed almost 100% of the time. In over 20 years of doing this, I have only had one negative encounter and that was from someone who was not a native of my state. There have been no negative encounters with police at all in my entire life of carrying a firearm... open or concealed.

Yep, seems to fit fine, not a ton of spare room though.

95% of the time I carry a P227 - that for sure does not fit.

For my own understanding, are we saying the definition of "carrying" is simply transporting the gun to and from the range?

If we are talking about driving around with a gun in the vehicle at all times, i'm interested to know why you guys "carry"? Is it for safety reasons, pride of ownership, or simply because you can, etc...?

My daily CC is a Springfield xdm subcompact .40, i use a gunfighters Inc holster (great draw and great retention). For longer road trips I'll take the xdm .40 full sized. Lock box in the vehicle if I have to go somewhere I'm not legally allowed to carry.

Always get a kick out of people from the south. I bet this guy has a straight face typing that out while honestly trying to draw parallels between playing golf, and carrying a pistol out in public in the modern world.

Yeah, carrying a lethal weapon to get groceries and playing golf are totally the same thing! Too funny.

Now if you said specifically going to the shooting range vs collecting stamps sur, but this about carrying all the time no matter what. Definitely blows my mind someone would think these are comparable activities.

No I don't carry in NJ because there is no point. I see only downside risk. There is virtually no scenario where I would honestly be able to use it in this state. Someone can break into my house and I still can't do anything with it except throw it at him.

You guys would really stand a fight without being trained? I'm just honest enough to admit I'm not experienced or trained well enough to use it under any circumstance.

Just me being honest. If you're trained and honestly know how to handle crazy situations have at it, but I'd guess 99% of people are just talk and wouldn't really know how to handle the situation.

it's obvious you do not agree, understand, or care to even educate yourself, but your comment about him is not appreciated. Your condemnation of someone else is not welcome in any format. You are free to disagree, but not look down upon someone who does not have the same beliefs you have.

We have auto insurance in the event we have an accident or someone steals our property. We have fire extinguishers in our homes in the event we have a kitchen fire. Most of use are probably talking about carrying a firearm on or about our person when inside and outside of our vehicles. The reason? Well I can't speak for others, though I imagine their reasons are the same as mine, and that is to live. I don't feel like giving up my life to the whims of someone who may wish me harm. My sidearms are tools... nothing more than that. And I chose to use those tools in my defense and those of whom I hold dear to me.

    It really is that simple.

Just me being honest. If you're trained and honestly know how to handle crazy situations have at it, but I'd guess 99% of people are just talk and wouldn't really know how to handle the situation.
Again, you don't understand the mentality. You have already given up before a "fight" even starts. You are not always give a way out, you are not always allowed to say "sorry" and walk away, some times there is no reasoning with a person and they are dead set on harming you. In this instance it does not matter if you have any training. Gaining any edge what so ever to protect yourself, your family, or those you love is the forefront and all that matters. That being said, I choose to improve my odds and practice regularly with both simple pistol manipulation and live ammo practice in various scenarios. Until recently I also competed in IDPA and took an updated defensive class once a year done by local military.

I hope I never have to use my firearm outside of targets, I hope nobody has to, but I'd like to be prepared for when things do not go right. We have airbags to keep us alive, but nobody plans to get into an accident. We carry health insurance, but nobody plans to contract a disease. All are forms of preparing for unforeseen consequences.

"Always get a kick out of people from the south."
You must. Enough of your kind visit our region of the country each year.

"I bet this guy has a straight face typing that out while honestly trying to draw parallels between playing golf, and carrying a pistol out in public in the modern world."
Straight as a carpenter's rule. The reference to playing golf or collecting stamps had to do with one's predilections. Some people enjoy playing golf or collecting stamps. I happen to enjoy shooting firearms and collecting them. I fail to see where there is any difference other than that of a different preference. And what does "and carrying a pistol out in public in the modern world" have to do with anything. I happen to believe that the world can be a dangerous place and I elect to save the one life that God allowed me, if possible.

New Jersey is one of the most draconian states in the nation when it comes to guns and their treatment of people with firearms. Hell, you can't even use expanding ammunition in that state for your defense. Thank you but I'll remain in the South. I like my freedom too much to serve it over to the "authorities".

Ain't that the truth. I do carry to church, when I go, and to the movies. Can't carry to schools K-12, though. Those areas are still favored by the idiots who like to create gun free zones. Always a great way to kill more kids.

Not sure what you mean by training but I was taught the basics of using a firearm when I took the NRA course to obtain my permit .. My accuracy and technique to obtain that accuracy has improved with multiple trips to the range .. You will be shocked to know how many police officers hate their mandatory range time or hate guns in general .. If those are the people u place ur life in their hands 100% of the time that's fine.. Not fine for me and my family however

I train every two weeks and have been doing so on a regular basis, with a few interruptions due to some surgeries, for the past four years. And I have been shooting for close to 48 years. I have taken four courses on firearms and Virginia law/use of deadly force. I take this stuff VERY seriously. You do make a good point in one area. Those who are not willing to put in the time and learn defensive shooting techniques may be putting themselves and others at risk. I would add to this that it is extremely important to learn the laws of one's state in this subject area in the event they ever have to use that gun.

Although @roadawg is clearly on one side of this issue, he brought up an interesting point which I would be curious for people who do carry to address: if a situation were to occur where possession of a firearm would come in handy, how prepared do you think you would be to handle that situation effectively? I'm not trying to throw stones at anyone and am just looking for honest feedback, because I know from my own experience (not with firearms, but other spur-of-the-moment, quick action scenarios) that when the shit hits the fan I do not always do the thing that I would easily identify any other day as the right thing to do. My brain kind of goes into paralysis because reading about something in a book is a lot different than doing it in real life, and while I'm lucky that such situations do not come up very often, I'm therefore unfortunately never prepared/practiced enough to take care of them.

I understand going to the firing range and learning how to shoot accurately, but what about the actions leading up to taking the shot? Quickly removing the gun from the holster, switching the safety off, keeping your finger off the trigger so as to not accidentally discharge the weapon, hitting a moving target, etc.

For the record, I'm in the middle on this issue. I often think about having a firearm but don't trust my butterfingers to keep myself (or anyone else) safe with it.

I mentioned that I train every two weeks. I go with a neighbor friend, or sometimes by myself. We don't use standard targets but rather two different sizes of paper plates and index cards. We go through numerous drills from draw and fire exercises (yes, the range allows this) to strong hand week hand shooting to reloading between timed targets. We have the targets flip from edge to face and back for double taps, the Mozambique drill, and multiple targets. We do our draw fire exercises from concealment on targets that present for two seconds then flip to edge. This means we have to draw and fire two rounds in two seconds at 15 feet on a seven inch plate. We mix it up quite a bit to not only keep it interesting and challenging but to hone our skills and make us think and react.

Was just there this morning doing all of this and more. We don't just punch paper on stationary targets. We have those targets moving while we are doing draw/fire or shooting from the high compressed ready position and pressing out for the shots. All good stuff.
