    16' SQ5 MMI is busted...

Got 190 miles on the car. Last night went out to the movies with the wife and the screen just didn't turn on. No radio, nav, tel, car options, etc. It was just dark and quiet. Everything else worked - windows, heated/cooled seats, locks, etc. It took about ~15 minutes and the MMI finally booted up. I saw somewhere that pressing VOLUME_DOWN+MENU+BIG_CLICKER_DOWN would reset the system. I did do this, and the radio comes on but none of the controls work. At one point I heard some clicking (I might be crazy, but it reminded me of hard drive failure clicking.. and I thought.. this can't be the case?)

Does anyone know if this is a common problem? My dealers service dept's next available appointment (with loaner) is next Monday. I might call another one nearby to see if they can take me in.

I've had an issue where it took a while to turn on, but everything functioned just fine afterwards. These MMI's are a bit screwy.

Interesting. The thing is just not booting up anymore. Stuck on the MMI screen. I think I'm more sad that I barely hit a few hundred miles and i'm having problems.

It might not hurt to call the 800 number for tech assistance. Maybe they have some tips or experience with your problem. It's 855-750-8324.

Holding down the volume button only turns the screen on and off, press these 3 buttons for a few seconds to reset the MMI. Hope it helps.

It's probably just a bad hard drive. What you think you heard is very likely the cause. The MMI high has a hard drive, and if they're going to go bad, it's usually when they're new. Just take it back to the dealer and say "fix it, beeatch!"

Hey thanks q5 dave and yakev724 - I did try that and found that in a different thread.

OF COURSE I took it to the service dept. and the thing was working. They're keeping it overnight and didn't have a loaner. I'm sad and no SQ5.

My local service dept. told me there was a fault code, they ordered a module that is 7-10 backordered and they don't really know when it will be here because of the holidays.

So much for being really excited about my SQ5.

Did you ever get a loaner while your car in in the shop?

I took it on Monday, they had available appointments, no loaners. They did say I could get a loaner on Tuesday.

I called about the status at 8AM on Tuesday, no call until ~1PM. That's when I got the news about the fault code but they were unable to reproduce the issue. I picked up my vehicle after they told me it would be 7-10 days for the part to come in.

They did not offer me a loaner when telling me 7-10 days, but then again I didn't ask.

This happened to mine as well right around the same mark about 6 months ago. They replaced it and no issues since.

The part finally came in. The service guy described it as "the main computer for the whole car", and that it was shipped from Germany and took awhile because of customs.

Car is in the shop today. I'm driving a 15' 2.0.. it makes me a little sad.

That's the worst part of this story yet. They're keeping your brand new premium $60k vehicle with no loaner? Seriously - time for another dealer. I could - MAYBE - see this if you went in for something you damaged, but this is clearly a warranty issue and they're badly failing on the "Let's keep this guy as a service customer for years" part of doing business.

    Yea.. I know. :(

I am on my way to pick it up. Got the SOW

"Performed replacement of the 5F control module due to faulty communication with module intermittently causing module to shut down and not restart at times. Installed new 5F and performed coding and activation of new module. Test drove vehicle and verified condition no longer present."

Few things I don't know, but might signify what was replaced :)

    Install SOP 5F
    GFF Guides functions
    1 8R1-035-746-H CONTR UNIT
    Radio replace

    And then test drive...

yeah, that's seriously boot. i had an issue with audi mission viejo a while back. they ran out of loaner cars but offered to rent a car for me. the local enterprise center that they work with ran out of cars too. they ended up shuttling me 20mins in the opposite direction of home for me to get me into a nissan versa loaner while my car was in for service...all this AFTER i had explicitly requested a loaner with my appointment! add insult to injury, i wrote an email to the service manager expressing my displeasure, and they never even bothered responding. first time i had to give (really) bad ratings to a service dept.

thanks to you tho, rector has been a dream. i did, however, notice that they put 20+ miles on my car during the 2 days it was there this week. my Q5 was in for an intake actuator fix that prob required a test drive or two, but 20+ miles?!? i'm not gonna bring it up since roger has been nothing short of great to me, but i'm hoping it doesn't repeat when i go in for my 45k service next month.
