Unhappy "Fault in the brake system" and the "ABS" warning signs both showed up

    Hello everyone,

In the morning after 2 minutes of driving the "Fault in the brake system" and the "ABS" warning signs both showed up and stayed on the dashboard. However the brakes were working fine. I drove about 500 meters and pulled down but not stopping the engine for a minute. Both lights were still showing up. I've then restarted the engine and neither of them came up again while coming to work (it took about 30 minutes). After arriving to work I've checked the brake fluid level and it's fine so I guess no leakage. The brakes still work perfectly and not experiencing anything bad with it.

Two more information: recently it's a bit colder outside (I'm parking in a garage) and the lights showed up when I was accelerating from a break.

    Any idea why this happened?

    Thanks a lot,

    Daniel

hey mate, first thing to do is search for the same warning lights across the internets, and chances are you'll find a lot of information regarding this issue.

Common fault for the B5 is the ABS module, or a speed sensor at any one of the wheels might be dead/faulty. This commonly throws a fault code, resulting in both the brake light, and abs light staying light.

You'll need vcds (vagcom) to diagnose exactly what it is to fix it
Maintaining a 12 year old Audi is about as expensive as Charlie Sheen's coke habbit.

    Hey mate,

Yes, meanwhile I found some info that B5s came with a faulty Bosch ABS control unit... Great news. :)
But at least not my breaks are gone. :))
