AEB engine: new cam seal still leaking?

Hey guys, I have a 1999 audi a4 avant 1.8t (AEB engine code) and just got done doing the timing belt service. It appeared that the new exhaust cam seal had a little bit of oil getting past the seal where it meets with the camshaft (inside of the seal). Installed another cam seal thinking a lip was rolled when installed but it still looks like there is a steady layer of oil there still and you can see it slowly seeping out where the cam meets the seal with the engine running. The new seals were oem "new design", installed dry, and the cam itself didn't seem to have any wear on it. Could it be that pressure is pushing oil past the seal? What's a good way to test if that's the issue? Any help would be appreciated!

Just fyi the PCV on the inlet pipe was recently replaced but I believe there's another valve by the intake manifold?

    Thanks

Those new seals are a crap shoot, IMO. They only seem to work right if the cam surface is PERFECT. If the cam has been run with the "conventional" style cam seal before, the surface is often not perfect enough to run the PTFE. So you can retrofit a car that came with PTFE back to a conventional seal, but "upgrading" to the PTFE often doesn't work very well.

My suggestion is to get a conventional type seal. They may not last 200k+ like the PTFE, but they are less finicky and much easier to install, and tend to work right the first time. One of these guys, here:

Thanks for the reply walky! I just ordered the conventional type seal and I'm hoping this is the culprit!
