2006 A4 Sline Remote programing help?

Ok so I'm trying to help a buddy out. As the title says thats what he has. We are trying to resync an existing remote and program a new one. This is for the remote function only and not the Immobo. I have found all kinds of nonsense on how to do it. Pat your head 3 times hit the lock button twice and then rub your stomach crap. The battery died once before about a month ago and he replaced it and it was good to go. But now it did again and will not resync at all. I have tried the resync with the original key and nothing. Battery is good in both remotes. I have tried programing the new remote with the one in the ign and the other in the door method and can't get the lights to flash. With either remote.
The red light on the remote flashes fine. I have hooked up vag com and I can fully communicate with the central convince module and there are no codes in there. There is only 2 remotes programed to the car so it should accept that new one no issues. I can't get the car to acknowledge the keys in any shape or form. i want some definite confirmations on how to program these remotes correctly before i condemn the module. I want people with B7's who actually programed their remotes and what the actual real procedure that works correctly. The next thing we will try will be to reset the module. Also are there any remotes that look the same that do not work with the B7 A4? The spare key was mine that i bought for my B7 S4 i had along time ago. So it was deff a B7 generation key.

Any help would be awesome. He wants to get it fixed and there is no cut and dry version of how to program a new remote.

I had to get a second key. Maybe best thing is to do what I did. Use the dealership get a new remote , let them get both remotes working. This is less headache and not that expensive.

Unlock the car with the physical key.
Hold down the unlock button on the fob and insert it into the ignition (keep holding down unlock).
Turn the key to ignition on (engine off) - keep holding down unlock button
    Count to 10
Turn the key to off (keep holding down button)

    Remove and release button.

This worked for me when my key was buggy after changing batteries. We had to try a few times until we/car got it right.

You're doing something wrong then mate, no codes on your car, you should be able to resync at least the old key
