Not sure in the S4 but in my Yukon and my A3 its on the dash near the windshield.

Check the rear view mirror.

The light sensor is in the rear view mirror. Believe it's used for both the headlights and the rain-sensing wipers.

is it in the mounting stalk for the mirror? there is little eye that faces in the windshield that is in that stalk.

Yes, it in the mounting stalk for the mirror, sensor faces window.
