Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror - B8.5 - Have Rain and Light Sensor

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello! I have read through every post that I could find over the past week here and other forums and have not found the best information for my car. I am going to retrofit the OEM rear view auto dimming mirror and I have a B8.5 with rain and light sensor. I have removed my mirror and will post up a picture as soon as I can what I found under there. Has anyone done a retrofit with a B8.5 that already had the rain and light sensor? I found a post where someone said it's "plug and play" but that's not apparent to me from examining what's under my rear view mirror. Can I just wire up a harness from the cabin light? Is there a plug under that that just need to come down under the rear view mirror trim?

    Edited...here are the pictures:

I actually like it and have had in on a number of VW/Audi cars now...already have that on this car, so this just about the rear view mirror.

I did the self dim feature upgrade on my B8 but I'm a Premium base. +1 I actually enjoy the light and rain sensor in the Wife's Q5. Plus the rain sensor was one of my favorite convenience features on my Passat. With the auto rain and lights feature, I don't have to remember to turn off the light switch every time I exit the car (In the A4, if I don''t the headlights power on when I restart the car since the switch is still in the on position). The rain sensor's great when the rain is an inconsistent mist. I would think if you would want to find a replacement mirror that has self dim, plus the light and rain. The self dim feature definitley requires power and ground to my recollection. Maybe find a car that has all three, take down the vin and search for the correct mirror that way?

Question for the OP. Were you able to figure out what you needed here? I have the exact same setup, and it seems like something may have changed between the b8 and b8.5 as far as the mirror wiring. I have the same 3 wires for the rain/light sensor. I removed the sunroof/light panel, and there is no harness up there waiting, even though I have the 3 zone climate. I would I assume I would just get either a 6 or 8 pin mirror and get a harness for the side mirrors, reverse, etc, and keep the existing wires for the rain/light intact?

    Thanks in advance.

Driving this morning in the rain... and realizing my Allroad doesn't have rain sensor wipers now... man alive I miss it.

Going to have to do an upgrade to rain sensor/auto dimming once i have to replace my windshield.
