Side corner center HVAC vents by door will not shut when distributing air elsewhere

Guys, I'm baffled. My two side corner CENTER vents (by the door) will not close no matter what, only the two center ones above the radio do if I distribute air to lower, higher vents, or both. In other words now the two sides will blow air permanently.
Problem started a few months ago when my lower (foot-well) vents stopped blowing air while at the same time the center vents stays open even though I switch the flap to the bottom. Took it to the dealer and supposedly they replaced the flap motor under extended warranty and got the bottom vents working correctly again when distributed. Center vents working normally and can now be shut off/on, can also run simultaneously with others if needed....BUT...the two side vents will not close!
The service guys are trying to tell me that this is normal with the two side vents being always stays opened at all times. After owning my car for more than eight years and have consistently used the AC, the guys are trying to convince me that this is normal and how Audi designed it??? I'm positive that they will shut close when I vent the air somewhere else (unless I run them simultaneously). Now just to be sure, can you guys try yours to confirmed?

I had the same issue as well, except my center vents (above the radio) would not open. Of course this happened over the summer and on long road trips this got to be pretty annoying so I phoned up my local Audi dealer and they wouldn't give me any information on what might be wrong or how I could fix it, "liability issue". So I didn't do anything, then magically one day they decided to open up and fix themselves! I am interested to know what you find out about this though, because I know once the summer rolls around they are I will probably have this issue again.

^^I'm hoping for that 'magical' day too. For now they replaced the motor and the bottom is working (bottom was shut, with the center vents refuses to close when directing elsewhere). Now everything works, center two vents above radio closes normally except for the two farthest sides will always remained on - whether you direct them to top or bottom.
