K04 reinstall - correct washers to use?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Was searching the forums and didn't come across any exact list of what washers to use when reinstalling k04 turbos (coolant and oil crush washers).

Been looking at the ECS tuning washers, but want to make sure I order the correct ones: http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B5_S4-.../Turbocharger/

Anyone have a list of the washers needed for coolant and oil lines?

Any of those kits will work. You can probably find them cheaper elsewhere though. You need 8 coolant washers (12x18) and 4 oil line washers (14.2x17.9x1.5). You may also need sealing washers (4) for wastegates. Just go with a kit, it will be easier.

I believe Europa's turbo install kit lists the part numbers for the components.

Most of the kits I have seen were missing the thicker coolant spacer washer and 4 of the oil crush washers for some reason.
This is what you need to do all of them.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

The kit from JHM is the only one I came across with the thicker washer and everything else.

Not sure why people leave those washers out so often.
Maybe the oem turbos came with the spacer and the oil line adapters already installed so you wouldnt need them?

THIS!!! Came in here just to say this, if OP wants to see the FUn you can deal with when getting the wrong kit, check out my build thread.
If i had to redo it again, I would have gone with either 034 kit, or JHM, they seem to be the only ones who comprehend what is actually required, including the thick single washer.

how essential is the OD of these washers? I'm trying to put together a list of alternative sources for washers, most can be had for much cheaper than what they're being sold at.

Considering the alternative is another motor pull, I wouldn't risk it. At $70 it's a small piece of mind. I had an issue when I got the wrong kit with my K24's, tried to source the washers locally, by the time I spent driving to every damn parts store in the area, wasted gas, time, and effort, it was well worth the $70 to just click it and be done.

I actually just ordered a bunch through amazon for the future. 30 of each washer for like $5. These washers are not made of gold lol. Another option is a Goodyear or other hose fitting store near you. They usually have quite a few metric copper washers in the right size for our turbos. I even got some 8mm bolts from Goodyear pneumatics for the boost line off the compressor housing after accidentally snapping a stock one.

Did amazon have the 14.2x17.9x1.5? thats the only one I couldnt find. There are tons of 14x18 floating around but I'm not sure if that slight difference in size will cause a problem like what S4gasm aka LOTR said.

Pulling the motor again would definitely suck if it doesnt seal properly, but at the end of the day a copper washer is a copper washer.

The 14x18x1.5's will work fine. After all, the bolts are 14mm OD anyways.

Wonder if it being copper will be different than al. Copper is a little harder than aluminum property wise.

No problem at all. I actually prefer the copper over the aluminum.

Alum or copper is fine, the important part is that they are annealed, dead soft, and fit.

When you hear people talk about that motor pull for a 25cent washer, these are them.
Listen to s4gasm, do not fk around with these!!! Get them from the dealer or another proven source.
I usually buy 5-6 sets at a time from the dealer. They dont seem to be one of the things they rape you on.

I agree with everything you say, and you guys have helped me tons during my B5 journey.
But assuming the washer is correctly sized and the mechanical properties / material composition are the same, I don't think it matters which source it comes from.
Lol, lets hope I don't eat my words.

You are right, but this is not worth risking being wrong
A set of these from the dealer, that you know will be right, is less than $20.

Some of the turbo install kits from reputable vendors are a very convenient way to go. Just need to make sure you are getting everything.
