You may have to try to swap in a V6 or V8 line if you can't make it reach. Since you have the engine sitting in the bay already, I'm guessing your best case would be to try accessing it through the wheel well side.

Look into doing the V8 line. You won't have to worry about attaching it to the metal piping before it attaches to the pump as required of the V6 line.

Not entirely sure but, is this build with a FWD V8 or AWD?

This thread is based on my AWD V8 with an ABZ. Xoct is doing a FWD V8 with an ABZ.

Did you get your wiring sorted out yet? I was just thinking about starting a harness modification service if you want something plug and play based directly on what I've been successfully using for almost 2 years now. I'm also considering making copies of my crank sensor fixture.

I started it, but I didn't get far because of my schedule. ..I appreciate the support, but Im good for now. Not to say I wont ever consider your help. I was actually planning to make an extended jumper with male/female connector ends. I dont mind splicing, but I would rather not have to worry about digging into the harness later after its wrapped up if there was ever a short. I figure once I get the engine and the trans mated together then I'll set up the wires with the proper length.

Crank sensor fixture? The B5 V8 swap idea is growing, I don't see a problem with helping or at least being a point of contact. We know others who are good resources to our builds already.

    B5 V8 Swap

Took care of a few things, but I think I want to change the color on a few things. Found out that ECS sent the wrong size serpentine belt.

    Out with the old..

    In with the new...

Trans side ready, but I need some grease.

Out with the old and shorter bolts

Snugged in, but it's not fully installed. Need to verify proper torque first. Of course I had an alignment issue after assuming the holes would automatically line up when there's a slight variation in the dimentions of the hole locations. I thought I marked it right, but found one or two holes not allowing the bolts to fully engage threads. Had to take it apart, rotate, testfit bolts, rotate, testfit bolts, rotate....etc..... till I finally aligned it right.

I need some clamps and a few random things.

Correction; It's the correct belt size. User error.

I did something today that I'm not too sure about, but I'm moving forward. Primed, then coated. Valve head covers will be next.

Crap, picked up the wrong color for the intake. Should be more yellow.

awesome progress so far mate! love seeing all the painted bits as well, really sets it off :)

Just wondering how you held the flywheel stationary whilst undoing/tightening the flywheel bolts?
Maintaining a 12 year old Audi is about as expensive as Charlie Sheen's coke habbit.

I used a variety of methods.. a breaker bar on the harmonic pulley while the old belt was on, or a 1/2 in extention bar in between the flex plate, or ....

Turned out pretty good. I guess I'll go ahead and deal with mating the trans and figure out crank sensor location

Yep, flywheel bolt. M12 Bit took a crap during the 90degree 1/4 turn.

Are you referring to the bolts from my 12v V6 flywheel or the flex plate on the V8?

I'm attempting to install the 034 Motorsport Flywheel INSERT that mates with the flex plate. There's no way the original bolts that held the flex plate would be able to hold both the insert and the plate. The insert comes with the bolts required for the install, but it would have been great if 034 added an extra bolt or two.

To be honest, for my own piece of mind I would rather replace the used bolts when they've already been torque to yield.

Why tighten with M12 instead of a standard 17mm (or whatever) 6-point socket? Is there really not enough clearance, even for a chrome socket?

I actually started with the socket, but couldn't fully engage the head of the bolt the closer it got to being seated with other bolts already snugged. These are times I miss the 8 bolt pattern.

You can get these flywheel bolts with 14mm socket heads, to give more room. I had the same issues on my 32V S8 motor (AHC).

Size 6 allen key through the flex plate hole made installation easier. There's no play during and after torque. No damage to anything.

    Flange installed.

Need to grind off bracket from housing to have more clearance and ability to install alternator. Thinking of plugging hole for water or tapping to make it all into an air with water cooled oil cooler set up.

Trash: Plastic pipe that's usually sandwich between cooler housing and engine. Has a high probability of failure.

If there were any interest to keep OEM cooler/filter housing intact, I did come across a metal version.
