Likely a very dumb question...Switching between audio presets

    Hi All,

This is probably something I should have figured out by now, but is there away to easily transition between your presets stations? My last ride had a button on the steering wheel that did it, but I've yet to find out a way to switch presets without using the 'number pad' on the console, and selecting a specific preset. I thought maybe you could set it as an option for the *star button, but no.

Am I missing something obvious? Is there a way to rotate between/advance your favorite channels? Help!

    Thanks

I programmed the * button on the steering wheel to cycle through my presents sequentially.

Thanks all for your input. The presets option in the gauge cluster is an ok option, but I tend to leave mine on digital speedometer most of the time, so it takes a couple clicks to get to it. As to the main screen, I almost always have the map up, so again it takes several clicks to get to presets on the radio screen. I should have been more clear that I'm looking for a way to cycle to the next preset with a single button push.

This is exactly what I'm trying to do. But when I'm in the MMI settings for the * button, I didn't see the option you mention. It just gives me the option to cycle through sources, not presets. Was this a VAG mod? Or I wonder if it was only added in later versions of MMI?

I am not in my car right now so I can't recall exactly. It is not a VAG COM mod, my car is bone stock. Bring up the presents on your main MMI display. Cycle through sources should now cycle through the presets.

I do not know if the 2016 is different but the only method prior to 2016 was to use the MMI Audio page. I think the whole design is a mistake not to have a separate display for the audio, I do not want to switch away from my maps on the MMI just to see the artist playing on the MMI. You can't even get the artist on the DIS, you can only get the station. Even if you switch to Sirius on the MMI, you still have to wait for the artist info to download. Most cars will allow you to see the radio information or at least have a selectable permanent display of the Station/Artist/Title.
I like to quickly move my eyes to get information not have to press buttons and wait.

This is one of my minor grievances with this vehicle, no way to go forward and back through presets or stations via steering wheel. Just program the asterisk button and you can skip forward for half of the functionality.

Not on mine. It just goes to the next numerically sequential station. Not the next (or previous) preset.

I'm 99% positive that's not an option on my car when I pull up the list of things to program it with, but I'll go out and try it again. It would certainly be better than nothing.

I'm pretty sure you program this button using the DIS and the steering wheel as well as through the MMI system. I would be very surprised if you couldn't as i didn't think the infotainment was any different between the 6/7 models.
You have to have the MMI set to view presets and only THEN will it scroll throug presets. Whatever you have listed on the MMI, presets, FM radio, satellite, sd card, the * button will advance forward only within the current source input if that makes sense.

I believe it is the same for the arrow forward/backward button. if you are listening to your presets, and your MMI is on preset (which, for radio, mine is on 100% of the time), then the arrow buttons work to cycle thru those presets.

One of my major grievances was, as stated in my previous post, is no control of the audio parameters without pushing buttons. This aversion to discreet buttons only complicates the issue and the only thing that could make it worse is by having a touch screen.
