    1.8T - TONS of vacuum - valve cover and crank

    Never come across this:
    misfires, rough idle.
    Main manifold vacuum (at fuel pressure regulator): around 15 inHG.
    Tried to get oil cap off: need screwdriver
    Vacuum at oil dip stick: 10 mmHG! Loud sucking noise when pulling dip stick out.
    Vent line from hockey puck: 10mm HG vacuum. Big time sucking.

    What is going on?

    Pretty much running intake vacuum on valve cover and crank.

    02 Allroad 6 spd, Kraftwerk Turbo TM6, 750cc, 3" MAF, piggy, FMIC, CM stg 5 (hate). 30 psi at 3600 rpm. Needs stronger rods (coming).

    Check PVC and crankcase breather tube. at 15inHG idle, it seems that you have a vacuum leak going on (unless it's super hot and have the A/C going). Vacuum at idle should be closer to 20 inHG.

    15 to 20 inHG manifold vacuum is on the low side.
    But in this context of no meaning, since CRANK and VALVE COVER have 10-15 inHG.
    THAT is the abnormally (and potentially also influences the manifold vac).
    15-17-20 manifold vac is academic at this point. For arguments sake: assume it is 20.

    Also note: engine smoked. NO leak.

    Leak or check valve issue.
    With motor running oil cap should not be hard to remove.
    Go over all your lines.
    I refreshed all mine 4 years ago.
    Easier than waiting for surprises to pop up here and there.

    ECS has a kit. Or buy what you find is broken.

    Its the check valve attached to the block under the intake manifold.

    The one coming off the block, then into a T. Fairly big line, check valve pressed INTO the line?

    That would be the one. The PCV valve. What model year? It determines which PCV valve is required.

    This is basically the diagnostic checklist for PCV.

    DIFFERENT CAR, Different Engine !!!!

    But: Also TONS of vacuum on valve cover.

    2006 A4 2.0T
    Getting codes:
    008825 - Leak in Air Intake System
    008583 - Bank 1; System too Lean at Idle
    000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

    This PCV looks different, but also has hockey puck; I once smoked (leak tested) a 2006 2.0T and it leaked badly (cracked puck).
    On this one, I can also feel vacuum (was once told on Passat CC engine that vac on the little hole of the hockey puck indicates bad bladder in valve).

    Is high vac (and lean etc.) coming from this PCV valve?
    On 2010 Passat CC, I only replaced (offered aftermarket) the hockey puck lid/bladder/spring. Also available and possible for 2006 2.0T?

    Or do I need complete unit?
