I checked with Alpine looks like most of the functionality will only work with euro spec'd audis. too bad it was pretty cool looking.

Im getting this fitted to my car very soon. I saw it a month or 2 ago and then just the other weekend was behind them at a car show and spent a lot of time with them and their demo A5. The features are great and due to a stronger internal amp should benefit my B+O system slightly more.

All functions from OEM are retained which is good but it just looks so so much better :)

You're lucky that Alpine made it compatible with the Euro oem functions!

I have it my North American Audi California. Works great. Bought from Italy through authorized alpine dealer over eBay. Has warranty through alpine Europe, downfall is if I need warranty work have to ship back to get it done. Small price to get rid of Audi concert system. One thing I noticed in the thread is you said you have MMI system. The 701D is NOT compatible with MMI only Audi concert or symphony systems. There are plenty of mods for the MMI systems though. Good luck. Only thing that was a pain was getting the USA navigation map. Because the unit is European it was loaded with European map so I had to purchase the USA map through naviextras. Cost $60 for the map. I am working on hacking the hidden menu for Audi concert this week to get the access code and change the sensitivity for the vim after that this should be a beauty. Good luck.

You have it installed, that's awesome I'm interested also. Can you still access the basic car menus from the original car button? Check oil windshield wipers daytime running?

It has all the same functions work exactly like factory. The tire pressure, oil sensors, temperature etc is all part of the unit functions. You will love it.

I need the rear camera for it, I'm sure it's extra, I see the Alpine system on eBay, where can you get the camera

They sell the camera as well I bought the replacement handle and camera that is alpine direct plug and play for around $80. Alpine has many camera options going all the way to about $400 for camera with top down view panaroma etc. just depends what you need and what you are willing to spend.

Do you have any pictures of the display? So everything works including steering wheel access? I'm thinking Sirius woudn't work.

You can look it up on alpine Europe much more detailed pics. No Sirius because they don't have Sirius in Europe and they don't make this style unit for the US, good news which surprised somewhat though was the FM radio does work, at first glance I thought it might not but it does. You do have to modify the fm antenna hookup though because they don't make the adapter for it at least not when I purchased so I took off the plastic antenna surround and plugged it in directly then zip tied it in place. Pretty thorough.

Thanks for the input. is it just FM or do you get HD radio also? Think that parking sensors would work since it's all plug and play with the canbus?

Yes the parking sensors normally and I don't know about HD stations contact alpine Europe and they can tell you.

Can you elaborate on what you did to get FM? did you get AM as well?

The unit comes with am/fm but because the unit is European and built to use with the dab system the adapter that is supplied only modifies the current adapter to go with the dab system. As a result if you want the Audi factory wiring for the fm to plug into the x701d you have to remove the plastic plug around the metal circle antenna plug and plug the metal antenna directly in to the 701d. It will become very clear once you have the unit and are ready to install. Enjoy

Emailed Alpine Europe and this was their response:

I received many requests from the US on the Audi system. The problems I see are:
- radio frequency band-with is different in Europe -> you may not be able to receive all channels
- navigation map is for Europe
- we can not guarantee that the overall wiring is compatible with an US model Audi A4
- the data-bus code for a US A4 may be not identical
- no Pandora or satellite radio support

Therefore I can not recommend it. There are simply too many question marks and you may end up spending $2000 or more
and nothing works properly.

Might be too much of a risk/reward.

I can sum it up like this for you. It's in my car and everything works perfectly. They have to tell you no they would be on the hook it's a legal issue. On sale for 1400 on eBay all day long. If you don't like it return it. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.

Nice!!! Enjoy... have fun with the install very easy overall.. took me around 4 hours but I took my time to really understand everything before doing it. The rear camera was the most difficult part for me.

Cool was updating the map to US difficult? I registered on naviextras.

One thing I noticed in the thread is you said you have MMI system. The 701D is NOT compatible with MMI only Audi concert or symphony systems. There are plenty of mods for the MMI systems though. Good luck.

If you have an MMI system, then the mObridge DA1 will work. That's what I'm running in my 2013 S6.

It allows you to keep the MMI as your source but then add your own aftermarket processor, amps and speakers. There is no cutting into any of the Audi wires. Simply unplug the MOST harness from the factory amp and put it into the mObridge. Then you get an optical digital output to feed your aftermarket system.

The x701d doesn't work with MMI systems only concert series. Not compatible the fiber I'm guessing. Can bus only sorry. But it does have the rca outputs.

Currently using a Audio Control LC6 so i can use aftermarket components w/o losing any of the factory functioning.
