Sorry, I'm not reading the whole thread to see, but are you just getting the BitOne because you have optical? Just asking because the Alpine has crossover/EQ settings, so it may be a BIT redundant, ha! Obviously, the Alpine won't give you quite as much control, but I was able to flatten my signal nicely with it.

I realize that the Alpine has crossover/EQ settings, but the Bit One will give me better control across the entire spectrum. I like that I can connect it to a laptop and make any adjustments via the software interface. I got a great deal on a used one so I'm happy with my purchase.

Gents. Dumb question but does this work on a B.8.5 2014 S4? I see only mention of A4. Other than the S4 start up screen, I'm not aware of anything specific for the S. BTW, I don't have MMI. TIA!

It is possible to purchase new head end units on ebay for about USD$1300 or so, including freight. There are a number of European Auto HiFi shops on ebay that can source Alpine Europe components. UK sites as well, although my experience concludes they tend to discount less.

Did anyone in the US successfully install this with no issue in functionality? This is basically what I have been looking for as we got a 2014 Audi Q5 premium which didn't come with much (only xenon lighting package). I wanted to confirm that it works with all the functionalities as the OEM unit would including Sat radio.

Played with emteg's car on saturday and the radio can be installed without the sound upgrade.

If the car does not have NAV or backup sensors your have to manually connect a reverse wire for the BU camera. I also put a USB and HDMI port in the center console.

If you do the audio upgrade there are different configurations depending on how you your car is equipped.

The free install offer is still up but it only applies to the radio. Speaker install would be extra.

VIM is video in motion. Normally, Audi does not permit adjustments to the Navi and DVD playback settings while the vehicle is in motion. The TR1 module overrides that prohibition.

I was wondering if somebody can explain the pros and cons of enabling playback settings while in motion. Is the reason to do it to allow smartphone mirroring?

What are the cons ---apart from the obvious one of risk of distracted driving?

I wouldn't be dumb enough to watch videos while driving, of course.

Use alpine video bypass parking brake adapter eBay. Cut yellow black wire on alpine wiring side. Hook up as diagram shows.

I don't recall seeing if this unit can work with SD cards like the stock system. Has anyone tried using them with the X701D using an adapter? I have a ton of SD cards for use with the stock setup and it would be nice if I could use them with this unit.

FYI I checked with Alpine and this KWE-BO1 adapter is required in all audi sound systems with a subwoofer (including concert and B&O). The Alpine dealers from Europe who advertise on ebay can sell the adapter to you. I have ordered it from Marco Meggio.

Thanks for this, I installed the x701D yesterday and immediately noticed how loud it was. I had to set the source level volumes to -14 and it's still pretty loud even at volume 1! I'm hoping this will fix that issue!

Meggio does indeed respond to messages. The UK Alpine resellers are another source, although they are more expensive than eBay. When my X701D was installed in early 2017 by Sound Sensations in Marietta, GA, we were not aware this part was available. We used a Kenwood eXcelon X801-5 Class D 5 Channel Power Amplifier for the same purpose. It works fine with the original OEM speakers, which I have not (yet) upgraded.

Also for those of you that installed the backup camera - do you know which color wire to tap into for the reverse wire on the passenger side rear lights?

Just curious about the KWE-BO1 adapter. Is this only required for installation of the X701D with the stock amplifier and speakers?

Has anyone upgraded their system using their own amps and speakers with the X701D? I've got a nice set of Hertz 2-way separates and an Image Dynamics 12" sub along with a 4-channel Phoenix Gold amp for the separates and a Zapco amp for the sub that I was using in my old Passat. I'm not expecting the same sound quality from the Alpine as I was getting from my Clarion DRZ-9255 head unit. It is by far the best sounding head unit I've ever owned. I was sorely disappointed to find that I couldn't use it my A4. They just don't make head units of this quality anymore. It's all about the bells and whistles.

I had a full gut of my mine re wired the whole car. Btw (Dremeling the Molex plugs sucked) All separate amps and processor. Sounded amazing but decided to go back to Full MMI w/ nav because I want the fiber option for audison. I want a full digital signal from front to back. No analog anywhere.
