Sorry to clarify, not the functions on the new deck i was referring to the controls under the deck where the heat warming etc were. Do those still work or just the function on the new deck?

I am not sure how to say it more clearly. Everything works it's built for the car not some generic Aftermarket unit. Years of research to build for this exact car with all the functions and everything built for one purpose. To make a better unit plug and play. There is zero chance that alpine would build a $2,000 unit that somehow doesn't function or leaves out a function don't you think? Contact alpine Europe for specific answers if their website doesn't provide what your looking for.

Got it installed. My unit came with Am/FM input so it was straight plug/play. Have everything working with the exception of the NAV. Just waiting for a bigger capacity jump drive to make sure there's enough room for the update. Thanks for your help, great unit and tons of features to fine tune the sound to your own liking.

Yeah great unit. Check out the alpine spc 100 and spc 200 it upgrades the factory amp and speakers to really amazing sound. Will be fully tuned for x701d

I installed this system maybe a year ago, and there's a post in the S4 forum about it. From what I can remember, I don't think you will have AM.

If you have anything above Concert or you have nav, Alpine says this won't work, but I think that's just because of the fiber line going to the stock amp. In my case, I redid all the speakers also and replaced the stock amp, so everything works perfectly no matter which system you have (had).

No I can't get in using vagcom. The only other option that I know is using a device to hack the can bus. I don't really know how to do that and I can't find any one local to LA that can help yet. I'm still trying to figure it out. If you find a solution please let me know.

Please help! I had my Alpine X701D-A4 installed by a supposed professional. He was not able to connect the spc 200 amp to the unit/spc 100 speakers. His explanation was:

"Hey,

I had tried multiple setting on the amplifier and none of them allowed the amplifier to turn on. Like I said, I don't believe that amplifier is going to work as their is already an amplifier in the car.

The camera I would be able to hook up to the Reverse.. I did not see that mentioned in the instructions that came with the unit. "

Any suggestion to be able to connect the amp?

Those are Alpine OEM upgrade speakers amp made specifically for Audi. I think they are only sold in Europe. IIRC the X701D is supposed to work with the SPC 200.

The manual doesn't seem to mention any remote turn on, so it probably just waits for signal to turn on. I'd definitely have your installer talk to Alpine Europe.

I had tried multiple settings on the alpine amplifier to try and get it to work. None of them allowed the amplifier to turn on. That's just the setting I left it on. The alpine amp is not going to work with that sound system in the car. The factory harness cannot plug into the alpine amp; the pins do not line up. The alpine harness also does not have speaker leads going to any of the door/rear deck speakers.

The camera I can hook up to reverse. The instructions that you sent me were not in the original installation manual. It should only take me about and hour to do.

So, it sounds like he's trying to plug in the factory harness into the Alpine amp. I'm guessing he didn't read the book, and from a quick look through the manual, that's not how it works. The factory harness stays in the factory amp to power your rear speakers and sub. The harness that came with the Alpine obviously goes into the Alpine to power your fronts.

In regard to the "static" that he hears, that's an incompatibility between your new head unit and B&O amps. I experienced this briefly between the time I installed the Alpine head unit and when I replaced the B&O amp with an aftermarket one. The B&O amp uses some crazy signal level and Alpine can provide a part to fix this if you call them.

No actually, I was the one who was trying to plug the factory harness to the alpine amp after I changed the switch to 09 from 06. He installed the alpine harness but could not make the alpine amp work. He left both harnesses in the car. So the factory amp is connected to the Alpine X701D and Alpine speakers through the factory harness..
Yes, I think the interference is because the alpine X701D is not compatible with the factory amp and that's why I really wanted the alpine amp connected to the X701D.

That's incorrect. The x701d is made specifically for the car and is 100% compatible. The new wiring harness has to be installed and then takes over the entire system. The factory amp should be replaced by the new one. The new amp governs all functions and controls. There should be no interference. Did you contact alpine Europe for clarification on the matter?

I don't think you're talking about the same system Emetg is. This system doesn't replace the rears or say anything about taking out the factory amp. Also, while the head unit may be 100% compatible with a non-B&O amp, it's most definitely not compatible with a B&O amp without an extra part from Alpine to adjust the signal level.

So I got in touch with Riccardo Baggio of Alpine Italy. This was his reply:

You need check if your installer has also ordered KWE-AS1AU.
They are harness for SPC-200AU, when the veichle has a non-B&O sound system.

My installer did say that he cannot connect the Alpine amp to the subwoofers (SPC-100AU)

As I noted above, I recently (2/2/2017) installed an Alpine X701D-A4 radio, DVE-5300 DVD Player, and HCE-C252RD Backup Camera (we used KIT-R1AU for the installation components needed to fit the camera in the trunk handle) in our NAR Audi 2009 A4. Some notes from that installation experience, for those considering this step, follow:

Do not source a DVE-5300X DVD - it is a Region 2 DVD player, instead, source a DVE-5300, which is a Region 1 device.
The radio head does not support Serius X-band radio.
My car required an additional amp to match inputs between the Alpine radio and the existing amp in the car. (The car had a standard Audi kit, w/o Bose or B&O.) The installer recommended a Kenwood X801-5, which worked fine to eliminate a loud hiss. I have seen conflicting guidance on whether the existing amp should be removed.)
A PAC TR1 (TR-1) was used to unlock the VIM https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item...-TR1-TR-1.html
Other than noted above, the installation went according to the manual. There is a lot of data movement needed to install the US maps (in my case, with 3D), so expect to take about two hours to acquire the map from Naviextras and another two-three hours to upload to the radio. The download process seems needlessly complex, too.

The radio and assorted other equipment work well and I am now considering the front door speaker upgrades from Alpine.

Would I be limited to using only the Alpine amp and speakers with the X701D-A4? I'm suffering with the Audi Concert system after having a Clarion DRZ9255 head unit and Hertz MLK165 speakers in my B5 Passat. I thought I might be able to live with the Audi system until I could scrape together the money for this unit. I haven't looked at all of the specs for the X701D-A4 yet to see if I can set the crossover frequencies and sound levels for each driver. Doesn't the X701D-A4 have standard RCA preamp outputs to support a regular car audio amp? I don't see why I'd have to be limited to the Alpine amp and speakers.

You are not limited to only Alpine amps and speakers. The system does have RCA plugs. I left both the standard OEM amp and speakers "as is". The SPC100AU upgrade Alpine specs looks interesting, however, for those of us without the experience to do the sort of custom configuration you mention in your post.

Thanks for the info and the link. Setting up crossover frequencies isn't rocket science. Any car stereo shop can set it up for you if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.

I saw that mentioned in the description on the Alpine website. I haven't checked it out yet, but I suspect it may be what I was talking about.

Thanks for the links! FYI, the price on Ebay for the X701D-A4 radio/navi head unit was USD$1300. YMMV, but the various European automotive electronic shops there seem ready to deal.
