    Lowering the S3 Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I appreciate anybody's input on the matter of lowering my 2015 S3.

    Info:
    2015 S3 with magnetic ride

    Questions:
I understand that with my magnetic ride option, I can only use springs, not an entire coilover system.

For springs, how long do they last?

I've heard they last on average about 4 years.

If this is the case, how would I know when to change it?

This might be an absurd question to ask, but I'm a total newbie at lowering cars:
Is there any chance, however remote, that my car's suspension would suddenly fail and while driving, my car would stop dead in its tracks?

Also, I understand that when I lower the car's wheels and tires will have an even larger negative camber.

To offset this, if I understand correctly, I would use a "camber adjustment kit".

    Is this correct?

If so, would that negatively affect my car's safety by using an adjustment kit to reduce the negative camber (caused by lowering the car with the springs)?

If I implement the springs system now, am I able to take it back out, 4 years later, and use my stock springs?

I know the S3 is 25mm lower than an A3.

What is a safe, yet desirable, height to be lowered?

I mean, I don't want to scrape the bottom every time I drive over a small bump in a parking lot.

And, by lowering a car, using springs only with magnetic ride (not an entire coilover system), how much HARSHER is the ride going to be?

And finally, what springs do you guys recommend and why?

    Thank you guys!

    It is much appreciated.

Ok with mag ride you can install coilovers, there is an adapter piece you need to install to fool the electronics. I like coils and I'm pretty low the only time I have to watch out is when there are ridiculous speed bumps or pot holes the size of the moon..... And since I'm stationed overseas whenever I drive on base.

This is my car on coils

    This was before

And this is with the car full of people and a trunk full with luggage

Since I've lowered the car I have only scraped 3 times.... But in Germany the road are pretty good.

By doing that mag becomes completely disabled?

i did spring only once. never again.
    the ride quality becomes terrible.
and if you lower more than 1" your camber is not ideal. need camber kits.
not enough dampening and interior and other parts shakes and rattle.

do it right go with coil or replace the shocks matching ones.

    yeah $1000+ vs $300
but imo do it right the fist time.

Thanks guys for the invaluable information.

Will definitely consider seriously getting the coilover system instead of just the springs.

There are some on this forum I see successfully lowered with springs only. H&R. Feedback seems to be good.' Those lowered with springs have the Mag ride suspension though. All my cars I have lowered have always been coil overs.

I have my S3 on ST XTA, and very pleased with my purchase. I have around 6,000 miles on them.

The ST-X and ST-XTA are both great and have a 5 year warranty.

Hi, how did you get the camber plates on xta to work? I'm installing right now and a little lost as to how would I make the camber plates visible in front?
