Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Since my interior is all out of the car, i want to paint/Dye my grey alcantara seat. I want to make them black on black.

What's the best paint for alcantara seat ? Does someone tried to make them with Duplicolor Fabric paint or with Simply spray
    Dupli : http://www.duplicolor.com/product/vi...fabric-coating
    Simply Spray : http://www.simplyspray.com/product/s...-fabric-paint/

Haha I have a feeling this thread is going to generate a lot of anger as well.

To my knowledge I don't know if anyone here has painted their alcantara, but I suppose it is possible. I doubt it will still be as supple and soft, but you are welcome to try.

Yes it can be done. I have used the duplicator to touch up carpets and hood liners with good results. For Alcantara maybe something like http://www.fabricspraypaint.com/page...lor-chart.html would be better.

The key thing is to make sure whatever you are dying/painting is very very clean and free of any fabric protectors like Scotch Guard. It would be best to get them as clean as possible and shaved down etc. before you dye. The fabric has to be very absorbent so the spray goes in and does not just sit on the surface so it stays soft not crispy coated.

FabricSprayPaint and Simply Spray are the same company, on the web i can see people used it on there BMW seats but i wanted to see some of our seats done with it

For the soft part, 15 years seats are not really soft anymore due to the wear and the grey isn't really grey anymore

Over 1K to paint, i think it must be for complete upholstery of his seats with new Alcantara, else it's crazy to have paid 1K for paint.

What i like about Simply Spray is that you can paint inside anywhere, it has no fume or VOC, my friend did his seats that are normal tissu with it, it's kind if they filled paint with pressurized air, there's no smell, it's not like the Duplicolor that i've used for carpet

If you're going to do it, do it right... Call up a company like Leatherique and have them get you real dye.... Painting will not give you good results.

I've already looked at their site and when you do car seats you finish them with spray !!! Also they list nothing for Alcantara

Colorbond also seems to be only for leather

Look at their demo at 7min and more, it's directly in the paint gun ;)

Sounds like you need to actually speak to some of these companies to come up with the best solution IMO.

I've seen some people spray with the Dupli and it comes out not so nice (as a simple 1 step process) vs what I've seen done with Leatherique system.

But I have personally no experience with either.

My friend had one can of midnight black made by Simply Spray left and picked it up last night. There's no VOC, no fume, no gas it's weird but it seems to work great. I did 2 coats on a part of the back seat to do a test. I'll do a third coat tonight and post pics after. They say to wait for the coats to fully dry before putting another one.

Last night after 2 coats it was looking like dark charcoal, the fluid was style penetrating the Alcantara. This morning the seat was light black and i think that the 3rd coat will bring it to real black.

When i touch it, the feeling is the same, on the can it says that if your material can hold water this product will be perfect. When i've used Duplicolor on carpet they were becoming rough after, this product seems better and they have the words "Stay soft" written on

While I would prefer to have kept the white inserts I always though black would be good, easier to keep clean. I wonder how it will hold up.

Hopefully the first time you sit the paint doesn't rub of on your pants

By professionally, I meant "dyed". Don't cheap out and ruin some good alcantara!

for me it's the same thing as a dye. If you want you can scrub it to help penetration. Dye in cans are also good, why not use new technology even Ford and others do it

from colorbond spray can site :
COLORBOND is OEM approved and used by The Ford Motor Company.

Black leather doesn't look as nice because it gives you only one tint of black and also in hot summer i'm not a fan of leather

The topic is indeed older. I was thinking the same about my blue Alcantara seats of the S4 B5.

How durable is the color? What are experiences the long term?
