Question In need of help selecting downpipes for my 4.2 S5.

I know a b5 s4 like the back of my hand, not so much my S5 and I want to treat her right. I would prefer if i didn't have to go catless, but if needed i will. I've looked at millteks catted dps and I'm thinking about those. Anyone have a better option? or more information?

In need of help selecting downpipes for my 4.2 S5.

There are no cats on the downpipes for the 4.2 atleast. You can go resonated or non-resonated. I have non resonated awe downpipes

The downpipes don't affect the cats on the S5. They only remove or replace a set of resonators. There is a different section of exhaust piping that can be changed out with HFCs or catless coming right off the motor, and before the downpipes. I know JHM offers these, and others may as well.

That being said, I second bknewtype as far as downpipe selection, AWE is a great choice.

But no cats. :[ I'd really like to stay away from a re-flash if I can, not to mention it being illegal; coding out emissions and what not.

Sorry for the lack of knowledge guys, I warned you!
So where am I too look for the secondary cats? are there any visible? Are the precats the ones being replaced when dps are installed?

I will reiterate, Non resonated downpipes from AWE, or any other exhaust manufacturer will not affect your cats or require a re-flash, or be illegal.

The cats are located in a seperate section of piping before the downpipes on the S5. The entire exhaust set up is different than it is on our b5s.

You may have misinterpreted what Mikeyloureiro had posted.

So I guess I was asking the wrong question. What do I need to buy to replace the catalytic converters that isn't catless? It doesnt look like JHM is making the "Cat-pipes" any longer.

Thank you for the clarification GKTS4.

On the downpipes there are just resonators. You can get aftermarket resonated or none resonated. The cats right after the downpipes, changing the downpipes does not affect the cats.

No problem, I wasn't aware JHM wasn't doing there cat pipes any longer though, and I don't know of any other HFC options currently. Keep us updated if you find something!

Big question is: do you plan on getting the full exhaust or no? If so, take a look at the Borla system. Apparently it occasionally goes on sale for only $800 from time to time and that also includes downpipes and it has an xpipe

No, I have catalyst below threshold codes and I thought (being from the b5 and c5 community) that the main cats were somewhere in the downpipe/midpipe area. But I now realize they are giant hunks of metal right off the manifold. I will eventually get an awe track or something of the sort such as the borla as well bug the reason for the post was to get rid of my cel.
