Software update first, to be able to load new map database.
you do not have to keep key in ignition ON state or car turned on.... Gas is pricey and if you leave in ignition 2 - you might drain the battery eventually...
Solution is to use KEYFOB (EVEN if you HAVE key-less entry):
First switch off the car so nothing works (you can lock the car and then unlock it so you come to initial state):
Insert the KEYFOB into the switch but DO NOT turn it / press it to ignition position! (The KEYFOB itself - no need to remove the actual key or something)
This way MMI will turn on but all other car aspects will be still off - no ignition 2 state... and this is exactly what we need: only MMI on...
and MMI will not shut off by itself after 15 minutes like it generally does if you leave car like this - because it will be in "Engineering mode"...
