MMI 3G / Navigation Maps update

I was quoted quite a bit less by my dealer. I also don't have to buy a 32gb SD card, or do he install myself. The extra $100 is worth it to me to drop off at dealer. Still considering if it's worth $200/$300 to even upgrade. $100 would be a no brainier. I think the money would be better spent on other mods :)

dealer charges $550 or more. maps are usually pretty good for 2 to 3 years, but depending on where you live, stuff does start to get out of date, and the data base for restaurants, gas stations, etc can really become outdated after a few years. Have experienced both of those with an older Garmin we used to have that was not easily updated--it tried to send me off on a freeway ramp in LA that no longer existed, (then we got stuck in gridlock afterwards) and sent us to a shady part of town looking for restaurant that was gone. I know the smart phone supersede all this, but I still like the built in Nav for a lot of times.

Last I checked phillip was NOT a supporting vendor of the forums, yet he is benefitting selling property that isn't his for $200. $200 to download a map...he isn't doing it for the community, he is doing it for profit.

It would be no different if someone figured out how to steal APR's tune and sell it for 75% of retail.

Actually...what Philip is doing is not illegal. He's not necessarily taking payment for the maps, he's taking payment for providing a service (the help to install it). Navteq maps aren't under strict IP, so they can be freely given to anyone you know, as long as you're not taking payment for the maps themselves. The software that *utilizes* the maps cannot be distributed, but the maps themselves can. That's because of a deal to allow Navteq to use them at all (since they're really just provided from a conglomeration of business and corporations that create them). ... according to the rules in place Philip has done nothing wrong.

I don't have a solution, when I have time I will try to find one and provide it to the community rather than charging $200. Obviously I'm not the only one to complain, your thread was obviously locked before.

Lastly, I hope you are not taking legal advice based off a post on here. It made me laugh that you used that as a basis. You are directly selling the maps and posting on online for distribution. Last I checked, you are not posting your download links publicly, only to those paying you. Try selling your map upgrade on eBay, see what happens.

If you want to spam the forum, at least pay the supporting vendor fee. Enjoy it while it lasts...

I don't think this is a major moral or ethical dilemma. No one is going to suffer financial ruin because of this. My feeling is the Nav upgrades should be free of charge from Audi on a $55K car for the life of the car. what the hell good is a Navigation system with a 5 or eventually 10 year old map database? Not sure why the system wasn't designed to take a much easier user online update, like my Garmin units have. Greed I guess. I am glad someone figured out a way around a $500 plus dealer deal where I have to sit around in their waiting room for 3 hours.

I have a 2011 S4 and the jab currently only offers 4 digit postcode input (UK) - does the maps update allow full postcode search?

got mine updated a few days ago. could not have done it without Phillip of course. pretty cool to have 2016 maps in my 2012 car, plus the latest software updates. got inspired and called Sirius afterwards, and got a free trial of the satellite radio and ordered 3 months of traffic to try out as well. I figure I might as well take advantage of all this stuff that came with the car.

He helped me with updating my 3G+ MMI to K0814. He went above and beyond with easy instructions, great communication, and made the process super easy. Now I can tether my MMI to my cellphone for Audi Connect, etc.!

You don't need a vagcom cable to enable the green menu. You can run a script from an SD card. The this post:

YOu can access the hidden menu with Carista too. Plus it does a bunch of other shit for you.

Philip helped me update my MMI to K0133. Couldn't agree more about the easy instructions and great communication, definitely a stand up guy that we are lucky to have on the forum.

If your so against what this guy is providing for the community based off of his method for reimbursement, then why don't you start your own thread and provide this service at no cost. You're all talk right now, why should I look hard enough online for this service when you could provide the download link for me? Either provide the damn update for the members here or get off his nuts and let him conduct his business. Most people here personally do not have the time to search the internet for pirated software. I'd rather pay $200 than pay the stealership $600+ for some software that should be free. Either way you're not any more righteous or justified in your methods as you will still be providing pirated shit.

I know 0814 soft update for A6_A7_A8_Q3 3G+ units is out there at the dealers...

If someone got the SD content from dealer by chance - I will be more than happy to "donate" / "share expense" to get the data.. SD card part number is 8R0906961DM

Yep, this year its earlier than expected. Came out in October. its called "2015/2016" map update, like 2015 which came out this January was called "2014/2015"....

I wanted to keep this thread alive for those contemplating an update, but are unsure about the process.

I reached out to Philip about updating my 3G+ and he promptly replied to my emails, and sent over the download link with documentation. Step one of the map upgrade is complete, updating from firmware 609_1 to 814. The process took about 15 minutes, and was just as he described. The first re-boot kind of freaked me out, but overall a super easy DIY.

got the 2016 maps a month or so ago, and it has been working flawlessly. Also added Sirius traffic for a few dollars a month, and its a great thing to have around the SF Bay Area. saved me a bunch of time already.
