I'm listenning to all this and can't really get what is the summary message you want to promote here? You just complain and do not propose anything...
You do not want/like the solution - well then do not implement it! You find it useless or expensive? Great. Move on. We all got your point..
and you know what? Nobody complained except you. And you know why? Because people researched / asked / got quotes beforehand...
You have better/cheaper/free solution? Post it here and share with all!
All I do is propose an alternative. Alternative to something that was NOT available before.. Yes, there is a cost involved due to many aspects...
And regarding accusing me of "selling property that is not mine...", let me just annotate one of the members who seems to be in legal business:

The software that *utilizes* the maps cannot be distributed, but the maps themselves can. That's because of a deal to allow Navteq to use them at all (since they're really just provided from a conglomeration of business and corporations that create them). ... according to the rules in place Philip has done nothing wrong.
Hope I cleared myself and assuming all got your view also, we can move forward with this thread in more constructive manner. Thanks,
