    Matt's Build thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey All-

So I had an S6 with all the goodies on order but I just can't wait the 6 months to get it. When it comes I still have the option to take it. It is a Sepang Blue, Black Optics with Individual Interior car with red Sticking and black seats and all the options. So a pretty nice car.

But I LOVED me two previous S4's so I bought another in the meantime and maybe will keep it or maybe pass it on to the wife if I buy the S6 when it comes in.

First a question- I am putting the Eurocode front and rear Sway Bars on. If I am not mistaken most people suggest full tight in there back and 50% up front. Anyone with these have any suggestions?

My build will consist of the following:

H&R Coil-Overs - in Garage (put them on many other cars including my RS5 and love the ride)
    Eurocode Sways - in Garage
    Alu Kreuz - in Garage
SPC Adjustable Control Arms - in Garage
21 inch HRE Wheels in a dark bronze color - on the way here and should be here this week
Black Optic Conversion - all parts on order
Tag Motorsports all black and red emblem conversion
Passport 9500 CI-X installed radar with front & rear Jammers - Already installed
paint the mirror caps and lower "blades" body color for the Black Optics package - Will be done while away
Some sort of Stage Two kit - undecided on which company yet
    Magna-Flow Exhaust - Already Installed
35% 3M Ceramic tint all the way around with 50% Crystalline film on the Windshield
Expel Clear Bra - Gets installed 7/14

I know it doesn't count without photos but I will take some tomorrow after the tint and then along the way of my build. I will do my best to get good shots and explanations of how easy or hard each job is and where i set things up so others can use this info if desired.

If there is anything I am not doing while doing these other Mods please point them out so I can see if they should be done. I am open to any and all suggestions as it is normally Muscle Cars I build and not German cars. I have owned several Audi's including an R8 but this is my first one I am modding to this level. My 14' RS5 was lowered with wheels and my last S4 had a Stage II Stasis kit and stock wheels with spacers.

So needless to say, I am excited about doing all these things because I know this car is capable of so much more and it already is a blast to drive totally stock.

BTW: My build specs on the car are

    Sepang Blue
Black and Gray Nappa full Leather
    Sport Differential
    Side Assist
    Aluma package
    Cheese Grater Wheels
    6 Spd Manual
    B&O
    Carbon Interior Trim
Other stuff too, it was fully loaded without any Histrionic Cruise, which I am not a fan of but other then that it has every option.

This is going to be a nice build, can't wait to see all the pictures!

You might want to consider Eurocode Endlinks to mate with your swaybars since the OEM ones are plastic.

Your right, people usually set the rear sways to the stiff setting and the front to the softer setting to try and promote more oversteer. I also added more negative camber up front than the rear to help with this. This setup feels great with the sport diff.

Also, an intake helps the stage2 tune out nicely, and you get some nice supercharger whine!

Damn that's one hell of a list More about that GT350 on order

Same setup as will with respect to ec sway bars. Agreed on getting solid end links.

The only other mods you don't have listed are the various mounts/bushings that 034 makes, a CPS system to mitigate heat soak, and a proper bbk :)

@ Will13k7 - Actually have the solid end links, forgot to mention that. I am sure other parts are missing as well as mods. VAG mods will happen ASAP. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

@ drob23 - The GT350 will be one of the very first Consumer units. I had one of the very first ordered and am expecting a single digit serial number to a low-teen car. BBK is also one of the forgotten mods. I am going to run the RS5 front brakes. I should consider a larger Intercooler kit but I don't really drive the car that hard or for long periods of time, though in Florida it does get really hot.

@ Ravinjetta - I can't wait to see the 21's on there either. I actually had them ordered for my S6, so I am very hopeful they will fit.

@ Guitarmageddon - I assume you placed a photo or something? All I see if a "?" and nothing more.

@ Pilfer - I do like the S4 better then the RS5. First because it is a 6MT but also because it just feels more fun on a day to day basis. If my RS5 had been stick I am certain I would have enjoyed it more but it would still be a hard call for me on which I would pick assuming you could get them both with a 6MT and the flared fenders on the S4, they just look so good.

If I forgot anyone, I am sorry. Thanks for the advice and the opinions so far Guys. Keep them coming please.

just a heads up, you might need to do some fender work to fit those 21's, the only S4 I've heard of that ran 21's had RS4 fenders fitted. it will be interesting to hear how it goes though. good luck!

I don't understand why it sticks out like a sore thumb. I had Stasis Exhaust on my last S4 and it was not the tone I like. I like a really deep tone which the Magaflow offers and I have zero complaints about it so far. Granted it only has about 50 miles on it but I think it sounds good. Maybe a tad to loud inside at times (drone) but only at about exactly 70 MPH.

As far as dumping money ($20k) as you say, you have to remember that I have had 3 of these cars before so I have most of the parts already from previous cars I removed when selling.

And no "Giggles" about it. I have a severe nerve problem and this is my last Manual trans car I will be able to drive due to pain so I figured why not drive what I want while waiting 6 months for my new car. I have to drive something, don't I?

I did front bumper, 1/3 of the hood and front fenders and will do the mirrors once I have them painted Sepang (converting the car to black optics)

because you chose 5K HRE wheels not 1K Avant Garde
because you chose 2K H&R coilovers not 500$ Solowerks

so a 700$ exhaust kinda sticks out especially when the reviews all call it a droning machine without much tone.

I tried to convince myself to buy one especially having Magnaflow on my previous vehicle, until I heard the AWE in person.

IMO the best of both worlds is black optics trim with silver mirrors, you should keep them that way.

I only chose the HRE wheels because I had already bought them for my S6. Many people are saying they won't fit without modification so I will probably just get the black optic Rotary Wheels, which I love.

H&R Coilovers are $1100 and worth every penny. If I were to put springs, shocks and struts on it would cost about the same.

The Magnaflow exhaust, IMO sounds good. I have never heard the AWE in person but have heard the Stasis since I had it on my previous car and can only assume the tone is about the same, and it appeared that way while listening to sound clips. The Magnaflow is a much deeper tone which I prefer. It does have some drone but it is only at 70-72 MPH and it doesn't bother me since I am either driving below or above that speed. The speed limit on the highway here is 70, so you can easily do 80-90 all day long and the main roads around here have a speed limit of 60. Once we move back to the DC area my mind may change since the speed limits are so much less, but for now, Magnaflow it is.

As far as the prices for the pieces goes, it doesn't really matter to me if it is $500 or $1500, I like what I like and would rather spend more money to get what I want. You only live once and may as well enjoy it because you never know when your time is coming.

Next week my coilovers are being installed with my stock peeler wheels and spacers until I figure out what wheel I want to run. Probably going to go with MHT Niche Forged wheels since that is what I normally run and think I may even have a set from my RS5 i can throw on. (depending on the fitment of my 21 inch HRE wheels)

EPIC build, love it! Nice color and transmission selection btw.

I just installed the EuroCode sways and endlinks about 2 weeks ago and am absolutely loving the effect it has had. I did the firm setting in the rear and the soft setting up front as suggested by EuroCode and believe that was a good call for a stock suspension setup. Not sure the same advice applies once you install coilovers though. I believe some have gone to soft/soft for that setup (with a road course track in mind).

Interesting on the Magna-flow exhaust only costing $700 (haven't heard much about them). I may have to get one to hold me over until I go for a more expensive setup down the road (I have a valved setup in mind).

I also wanted to ask whether you went for the standard or spherical bearing SPC adjustable control arms (looking to pick up a set soon).

I went with Spherical, I believe. I bought what Eurocode suggested. As far as the Magnaflow Exhaust only being $700, I am not sure where that price came from. I paid $1100.00 for it which appeared to be a good deal compared to other places I looked. You also may not need to buy it just to tide you over, you may like it, I do! Listen to some video's on YouTube so you can hear how deep it is at idle and then it gets louder and slightly higher pitched when you are driving spirited.

Thank you. I always install the display there on all my Audi's, if of course it has the room. My SQ5 didn't have the space so I mounted it below the A/C controls which is also where I have the piece with the buttons for mute, etc. it fits perfect and can't easily be seen and is easy to reach when driving.

Nice, I'll check the videos out. Yeah, just did a search and found $1200 but not $700 (that would be a steal). Thanks!

That radar install is tremendous. How did you do it, might I ask? And do you have a shot of the buttons you did?

Thank you. I will take a shot of the buttons next time I am outside for you. But the install just takes a steady hand using a dermal to grind out the opening. You can drill it all out up to the edges and either use a dremel or a file or both, as was done here. You can also make a little silver trim ring out of a paperclip that looks good around it as well it you want a bezel.

Nice car man, I like the look of the silver side skirts. Not sure if it would look good on my daytona gray but I like how it looks on the blue.

That installation next to the screen is really slick. I'm gonna have to steal that idea Also that silver trim around would be a nice touch too, good idea.

So my car is getting lowered now on the H&R Coil Overs, Eurocode Sways front and rear, end links and Spacers from ECS until my new wheels come in. So while waiting for my car to be done I went ahead and lowered the Wife's car. It was easy to do but don't trust myself on the Quattro so I just assume leave that up to someone who does, but she will be down as far as she can be. Here are some photos of the Wife's GTI. Which BTW - if anyone is looking for a FUN and inexpensive car to buy for themselves a Kid whatever, this car is so much fun to drive and it even has a DSG. I would have considered a Golf R if you could still get them with a Manual after driving this thing. More smiles per mile then anything I have driven in a long time.

Also installed her radar which I will add some photos of.

20mm ECS Spacers in the rear and 15mm up front = perfect fitment.

    Radar:

So you can see it is nice and flush.
