Sorry, figured this out a few minutes later. It closes and opens the right center vent depending on the heat/ac position selected. It's stuck open.

So, this might sound stupid, but oh well.

I am about to replace all 4 tires (still on stock Contis and they will only last another 1k miles or so, even with rotation, for a total of about 15k miles) and called the local Audi/VW indie shop and asked him if he did mount and balance (highly recommended Audi/VW/Euro car mech). He stated that he doesn't and that I need to go to the dealer to do so. I was actually thinking of taking it to a guy I know at NTB but am now curious as to why the indie shop owner would say to take it to the dealer. I know there are no TPMS sensors in the valve stem and from what I can tell, it should just be a simple mount and balance. Any reason why an NTB or Pep Boys couldn't do it? It's not that I'm too cheap to take it to Audi, but what is the reason to pay more for Audi to do it (considering that scratching or bending the rims is not an issue wherever I take it) versus another shop?

I plan on buying the tires by Friday and need to get them mounted some time next week. Thoughts?

Maybe your indie doesn't have an adequate alignment system and figured you should go to dealer for one stop shop??? I dunno. There s/b other tire mount/balance/alignment options available.

Nope, never done that but I would love a 7th gear for long trips.

Yeah, but an alignment is necessarily needed when just replacing the tires. Car only has 13.5k miles on it and wear on the tires look even (no cupping or irregular wear patches), just that the Conti's suck!

When I turn on my heated seats, why does my AC/Air turn on?

This is kind of annoying. Although, I've found if you turn on the seat heaters and then turn off the HVAC, the seat heaters will stay on. So you can kind of get around it. But if you need to change the heat level, of course the HVAC comes on again.

I had the same question ('14 Prestige) ... dealer told me the S4 / A4 and Q5 all share the same dash entertainment setup, and some buttons are used depending on the car. He gave me an example of the Q5 having the button for downhill assist (or whatever thats called)...and we would never have a need for it.

Yup. Just touching that button turns it all on. Dumb indeed. I leave my A/C off most of the time though so it's not that big a deal. But it's still an extra step. I liked the rolley wheel on my B7 better.

My 2011 S5 allows the trunk to open when running.

I had my car for a month and thought my trunk was broken because it wouldn't open with the interior button even when the car was unlocked, I just always used the button on the key fob. Found out you can enable/disable the button in the MMI. I'm not a smart man.

When navigating, the small info screen, which is directly behind the steering wheel, replaces the digital speedo info with the navigation info, which I don't want. Is there a way to keep the digital speedo up all the time?

I think you just click the left thumb wheel on the steering wheel till you get back to the correct screen.

How long has it been since you changed the cabin air filter? A new one costs less than $20 and takes five minutes to install. I had the same issue with my 2013 that I bought with 34k on it. Had an unpleasant odor. New filter fixed it instantly; the old one was gross!

I tried that, but no luck. It cycles the radio, phone and navigation info only, when route guidance is active. When route guidance is not active, it will cycle the speedo as you said.

For sure. Makes a world of difference. Change it yearly. There's a good you-tube tutorial and how to do it easily.

Is there any way to change the DIS brightness level? I'd like it a bit dimmer than it goes with the dash lighting turned all the way down. On my b5 it can be turned off using the reset button but no dice on the new car.
Looked through instrument cluster adaptions in vag-com but didn't see anything. MMI brightness is fully adjustable, including off- which I also wish was more convenient to get to. Display is somewhat distracting on long interstate trips...

Ever since I had the JHM clutch & flywheel combo installed it has be ridiculously difficult to get the car into reverse when it's cold. I mean put all the strength I have just to slowly get it into gear. It was a little difficult before in the cold months, but not nearly as difficult now.

Do you think the linkage just needs to be adjusted?

Also, it takes quite a bit more effort to shift through gears now

Maybe it's time for a fluid flush? Has that ever been done? I did one once, but used a fluid that wasn't intended for cold weather. The car was a bitch to shift in cold winters.

There should be a tiny little knob on the dash by the light switches. Push it and it should pop out, then you can twist left/right for brightness.

Actually, I just tried this tonight and he's right. Normally that thumb button on the right stalk just cycles through the lap timer and various trip computer modes, but if you press it while navigation is active it will take you to the digital speedo (as well as the lap timer and trip computers).

Same here. My seat heaters work completely independently of my HVAC. I think it's safe to say that this was a change made on our B8.5s.
