Wow, that's a terrible noise for a vacuum leak!

    Glad he fixed it though...

Vacuum leak was in the IM silly . That knocking was a separate issue dealing with that one oil filler plate screw. I posted a more in-depth analysis of it over on the AR thread.

That said, I just took apart the IM, did the flapper DIY fix, and resealed the IM with a metric f*&k ton of sealant so it better not leak or make noise now. Leaving it to dry for a while

Ahhhhh, I'll hop on over to take a read. The knock sounded too mechanical to be vacuum leak so when I read that all you did was tightened down the valve cover I just thought "damn, such a simple fix"

Well... I opened up the IM. Fixed the flapper so it flaps super flappily. THen I resealed the IM with plenty of sealant so as not to encounter another vacuum leak...

Unfortunately, it turns out I had two to begin with. After letting the sealant dry for like 5 hours, I reinstalled everything and started her up. It idled perfectly for like 5 minutes and then dropped back into it's weird idle again. Here's a video showing that weird idle.

So from what I've been able to hear, it seems like the leak is coming from the vac hose that goes near the the ABS module area. I assume it's the same hose that leaves the T on the front of the intake manifold but the leak seems to be where the hose travels by the ABS module. Hopefully I can pinpoint it and patch it tomorrow quickly with some electrical tape or something. If anyone could find the part number for that hose, that would be awesome.

Maybe try doing a throttle body adaptation to see if maybe that'll help. It does sound like a vacuum like but I have a hunch that the TB thing could help.

Technically... "technically" the throttle body gets realigned every time you disconnect the battery for a while and reconnect it. This would mean that mine is reset but I'm gonna go ahead and do it through vagcom as well.

    YO

So pardon me if I sound a little excited... BECAUSE I FRIGGIN AM!!!!

Just drove it around town for like 6 miles to go get gas for the first time in a month and a half or so. A month and a half without getting gas just feels so weird to me... Anyways, I am in love again. I truly am. For some reason, the car sounds better, shifts better, revs better... EVERYTHING IS BETTER! All-in-all, it's probably because I've been deprived of driving it for so long but still. The car feels amazing. I am so so happy. I think the zero-gap snub mount and the rear diff mount that I added have made the shifting so much nicer. Took me all of 20 seconds (or two blocls down the street) to get used to the Stage 4 clutch. I actually love it. It's really grabby and obviously I still have 744 miles left to break it in but I'm loving it. It's a lot more friendly than I thought which is awesome. Oh and how she revs!!! SO quickly now haha. THe LWFW and LWCP coupled together is a mean combo. I love it haha. Man I could go on and on. I suppose now is a good time to update my total mod list so here it is.

Grand list of mods and other stuff I've done...so yeah... this title's already too long, oh well

Oh and one more awesome thing. After the drive, I scanned it. ZERO codes. count 'em. zero. It's easy because you don't have to count. WOO!!! Also the strange idle just mysteriously stopped. So I'm super pumped about that.

And here's a picture her getting filled up!

Oh joy, she's starting to mark her territory... It's definitely oil. Coming from the front of the motor too. I guess she's going in the air again :P

Could be front main seal even though I just replaced it. Or it could be that it's just time to reseal the oil pan.

Phil! Don't know how I missed your build thread man! Superb job bro! It was great meeting you this afternoon. Sorry I was a little out of it. Had a dilaudid in me and it makes me a little spacey...

Wish I would've checked out your engine. Love the colors you went with.

Haha thanks man! Great meeting you too. Those door blades ought to look good on Josh's car. Wish I'd gotten a chance to see yours as well. We should meet up again sometime. You come to meets often?

I'd love to make it back up there some time. Maybe next year for Leavenworth if I feel like driving that far haha

Anyways, semi-update time. I pulled the oil pan off to reseal it. In the process, I had a hunch about the JHM Oil cooler bracket thing leaking so I pulled the alternator and it's bracket off to check. Sure enough, there was a little puddle under the alternator signifying that some oil had leaked from the Oil cooler bracket. One of the AN fittings seemed a bit loose and I was able to do two full turns with a crescent wrench to tighten it. The other fitting was TIGHT. Somehow, two turns didn't satisfy me or make me feel that safe. So I broke out the hammer and tightened that fitting about 3/4 of a turn more by hitting the crescent wrench. Needless to say, it's tight and shouldn't leak. Reinstalled the alternator and put sealant on the oil pan and bolted it all back up.

The front end is still off because I wanted to replace the gasket that goes from the water pipe to the block and that's arriving in the mail tomorrow along with my Motul Oil.

This is what the oil pan hides. NEAT!!

    Aforementioned puddle

Hope that's tight enough on those fittings

All back together (kind of). Starting to finish that intake piping. Just need like 4 more inches of pipe and a coupler and it should be done. I'll probably get around to fabbing up an airbox by the end of the week.

Here's one thing that's had me a tad miffed for a while. This goes for all you JHM supercharged folks too. The JHM oil cooler kit has these lines run through here. The problem I see is that this is supposed to be a cooling application but the lines run DIRECTLY in front of the exhaust manifold or headers if you have them. Even if I had ceramic coated headers, I'd be worried about heating up these lines. At least the one travelling back from the radiator because it almost seems to negate the effects of having the cooler in the first place... So I've been thinking about putting some heat sheilding in between the lines and the exhaust manifold but I'm a little worried about it because the stuff I have leftover is for passive, radiative heat transfer, not direct contact. If I try and wedge a piece of shielding down there, it makes contact with the manifold so I don't know if it'd end up being that effective. Nothing pressing of course, just something I've been thinking about.

Put her all back together and took her for a test drive. So far, no leaks :)

Also, I piped my CAI today. Not the final product. Still need to make a little airbox and incorporate the old air-ram/ cowl. I also want to extend the pipe about four inches lower. But for now, I'm happy driving like it is.

    Needs that cowl

I think I'd like the filter to sit about this low

I also installed the little throttle body coolant bypass to keep temps down in the intake charge
