I'd like to see a video of a driveby with this installed to judge the sound rather than the static revving of the engine which doesn't give a realworld illustration of the sc whine.

After all, surely it's rare any of us sit at the lights and just rev the engine to hear the whine. I for one, stomp on the gas on the street to hear it with my current intake setup.

ECS! Do you have a picture of the bottom of the Carbon Top Cover and a picture of the intake installed with out the cover in the engine bay. I want to see how open this new design is for sound... Also a drive by video would be awesome too!!!

Nobody on this forum can Rev the engine at a stoplight because 90% of you guys are DSG. Lol. But its funny when people do that with an exhaust. It's not the same at all.

how loud is this compared to RocEuro and compared to stock? Somewhere in between I'm guessing? Probably closer to stock?

We've never compared different intakes side by side. But the fact ours has a lid tones down the sound a bit over just an open element filter. The stock airbox does a good job at suppressing sound, but ultimately the carbon tube with ours acts as a megaphone and makes it quite loud at WOT.

They kind of go hand in hand. When you open up the intake and remove the baffles/airbox it will produce more engine "growl" but at the same time you have a supercharger on top of the engine that you'll hear more as well. You can't muffle sound of the supercharger while increasing the sound the the engine unfortunately.

It's just the nature of twin screw/roots style superchargers.

I thought maybe the Carbon tube vs silicone (AWE) would an impact on sound (not whine)

Already have, see sig. I feel the engine could use more noise above 5K. I feel the exhaust quiets down after that point. Same thing for all my past cars.

The Carbon tube does effect the sound, it acts as a megaphone. So all the sounds coming from the intake are amplified. Since the opening of the supercharger is part of intake this is the only path the sound can come out. So you get the initial growl/sucking sound when you first hit the throttle from the engine and as the supercharger spins faster with increased RPM you'll hear the mechanical sound of the gears/scrolls in the supercharger.

The stock air box is designed to cancel out the majority of those sounds which is why you hardly hear any whine in factory form.

Mine should be here tomorrow. The plan is to get some logs with the CTS tonight, and also some GoPro clips (I'll try to do 3 clips- one outside on the front bumper, and then inside with the windows both up and down). Then I'll repeat with the ECS hopefully tomorrow night. The conditions should be similar the next several nights which is one of the keys to good logging (I also try to follow the same steps from warming up the car to 6 back-to-back passes on the same stretch of road in 3rd gear with a couple minutes of cool-down between each one).

I believe the only pieces you need to reuse from the OEM air box at the two part numbers below.

    Adapter Tube: 06E129368E
Grommet: 8K0129669 - Priced Each (shows two needed)

Below are the best photos I could find at the moment to show the fitment into the front cowling. We don't have our S4 at our facility right now otherwise I could get some more specific shots of those areas. The fitment on this system really is top notch as we designed it specifically to fit all the components of the S4/S5.

As far as a pic of everything assembled I'll see what I can dig up.

Any of the open air intakes with a heat-shield/seal seem to offer a slight improvement over stock. I'm normally a big fan of stock airboxes, but all the testing I have seen and done myself shows that it is a restriction to some degree; mostly to reduce the amount of sound. This is both in terms of the amount of air it can flow (air mass), and heat soak (IAT's).

I've logged and tested the stock intake, APR tube/AWE filter (stock airbox), CTS, someone else's full APR setup, and also logged someone else's Roc-Euro on the same dyno/day as my CTS. The CTS and Roc-Euro were nearly identical in terms of performance and sound, and better than anything else I have tested. I'll reserve judgment on the ECS until I get it installed and tested. It looks great, and seems well engineered. I got some good logs last night of the CTS, and I'll try to do the same with the ECS tonight.

With all that said, I'd also tell anyone to go with what you like. Any intake is only going to offer a marginal performance improvement at best. In terms of 1/4 mile times we are talking 0.1 or 0.2 seconds. Something you probably won't notice much in the real world. The testing myself and others have done is not the end-all-be-all. It's just another reference point. We can really only log 3-4 basic things related to the intake, and you need to combine that with real world performance, sound, and looks to decide what is best for your car.

Personally I like the sound of the roc-euro. I just don't like how all of the pieces aren't attached to anything and just flop around. The ECS intake is nice because it is actually secured to something.

I'm not necessarily expecting any power increase or decrease from what I have, but I am hoping this prevents further damage to anything else that sits in that area.

Lots of protection and bubble wrap:

    Underside:

    Intake tube:

(Side note) lots of fiber that were lose inside the tube, took a cotton rag and rubbed some of them off/lose and then blew it out with compressed air. You can see some examples in the below picture, nothing terrible just make sure you blow it out.

Awesome! Good to know! I went with the Roc Euro purely for the enhanced sound of the supercharger. But glad to hear that it, along with the CTS were nearly identical and best in terms of performance & sound!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the ECS intake!

Thanks for all the info and feedback, jran!

Damn that was fast! Holy crap!

Why the additional heat barrier? I am not a gearhead and just curious!

Carbon fiber will stay carbon fiber and visible, not covering it up unless it's in a spot you can't see.
This is mainly for the heat shield:
