How are you liking the larger rotors? Any difference while keeping the same calipers?

Nope, check out the last few posts on page 9 of my thread. It sucks but I'll get it done this week.

    Continuation of Page 9, Post #338 & 356

I had a pretty big issue yesterday while trying to do the rear S4 brake install. If you go back to the posts above ^, it'll show you what I bought for this install.

These are the threads I was asking my questions on for the rears.
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...0#post11331830
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...2#post11331832
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...1#post11333101

The issue I had was that the caliper wouldn't go over the new rotor and pad setup.

2 1/4 all together but the pads are 11/16

2 1/16 is all I had to work with

So I called to make sure the caliper was the same as the S4 and everything is correct, and it is. I had to use the pads I had on it before and the next brake change I'll have to shave the pads down a little to fit. That's what ECS Tuning told me.

I messed up and had to swap the rotors after I noticed I put them on the wrong side. Before I noticed, I drove it around and it felt like it was dragging and the rears got pretty hot. I only cycled the parking brake once or twice before driving the first time so this might have been the issue.

On the right is the new S4 carrier and spring setup, the left is the A4 stock setup.

I swapped them to the correct side this time... I cycled the parking brake about 6 times to make sure it was set back and not dragging, that seemed to fix the issue this time. They were pretty warm/hot after driving it a little but then again I was a little rough on them. The front wasn't that warm so I'll keep an eye out on the rears.

Well, I drove it a few more miles down the road and it's not dragging or making noise but they are hot and smoking a little. They are kicking out a lot of dust and I'm not sure what else to do with these damn things...

    Option 1: Find S4 calipers

Option 2: Put my A4 setup back on and sell the carriers and rotors

    $550 plus shipping

If anyone thinks that's a bad deal you should look at what the normal price is for the rotors, springs and carriers.

Very strange indeed as I know for a fact that on the B6/7 A/S4 the rear calipers are indeed different. You can use the same calipers on front (with S4 carriers), but being that the rear rotor on the S4 is vented, the A4 caliper does not work. Even with an S4 carrier.

Yeah but what I don't get is ECS and a few other places say the calipers are the same. No idea and pretty much over this rear setup now.

We should ask, if the A4 and S4 calipers are the same as they say. Why does the Stage 1 rear brake upgrade include calipers, if we only need carriers, springs and rotors?

Did you cross reference the A4 caliper part numbers to the S4's? I'm assuming you did plenty of homework based on your thread content, but thought it was worth asking.

I did and what I got out of it, they are the same. S4 is painted, A4 is not and that's the only difference. I don't understand why my setup isn't working. I might let it sit in the garage for a few days until I can figure it out or just install the old setup.

Hmmm, you didn't happen to measure the inside from the piston to the inner wall did you?
Post #365 has some links I was using for questions. Someone had S4 calipers and the inside piston clearance measured the same. So that's stumping me on the whole "they are different" answer.
Even ECS said they are the same but I wonder. I need to find a couple more and measure those.

My findings point to A4 and S4 calipers are difference despite what ECS says and a few people on here. S4 calipers are wider to account for the wider, vented rotor. I'll be looking for S4 calipers now so if anyone wants to sell, PM me.
It only took me 30 min to change back to my old setup on both sides. My best time

    Mfg Part #8K0615403A & 8K0615404A

You can see the difference in the width between the two:

    A4 Caliper

    S4 Caliper

Cheapest I can find for S4 calipers:

But here's what the rotors look like after dragging.

I've been following your frustrations over this. Sorry to hear. One sure way would be to get someone's vin from an S4 and have your dealer look up the actual part number for the S4 rear calipers.

I too considered the very same brake upgrades as you but decided just to go with the Stoptech ST40 upfront since it was designed from the ground up to maximize performance in unison with the oem A4 rear set up.

Hope you get this sorted out!

S4 rear calipers ordered, thanks eBay. $585 for rear calipers and carriers is a damn good deal I'd say.

If anyone wants to buy the rear carriers, PM me. (I already have a pair)

I'm interested. I'm thinking about upgrading to S4 rear rotors. My calipers will accommodate them right? Part numbers seem to be the same. I've researched them and everything.

Wow, way to be a douche bag without reading everything I've posted on this subject. If a reputable company told you they are the same, would you take their word for it?!

Well, with tires, mount, balance, and alignment there's about $1000. They are having a "special" on tirerack.com right now if anyone is interested. I found that my car is in need of an alignment since I can see cord on the inside on my tires plus they are pretty worn out. There's 1k setback from an EFR kit...

    Just ordered these from ECS:

Also on the fence for a trunk lid spoiler:

Michelin Pilot Supersports ftw, worth the extra money imho. The last place you want top skimp performance with all you've done is with your tires.

I have the oemthing rear spoiler in your second link to that thread. It's been a while but price I paid was like $89 painted and shipped. I have Ice Silver like you and the color match is perfect. Paint pretty good as well though I think they burned the edge with the polisher a little. Still amazing for the price and the fitment is very good. Also, I had a chance to see the genuine Rieger one on a parked B8. I did not like the fact it had the brand name molded on it.

My opinion, Michelin Pilot Supersports are overpriced and not worth it for an everyday driver. Continental and Hankook have worked great over the years with zero issues and have some of the best reviews.
Rieger has their name stamped in their parts? No thanks!

It was a joke. I was very active in the initial thread he had concerning this whole fiasco. I clearly caught him in a bad mood. I'm well aware of the situation.

It'll be weird driving with the new wheel at first, just takes time to get used to but you'll like it more and more over time.

I actually love it already. I feel like im more in control as the new wheel is smaller in diameter.

Awesome! It was weird for me but I'm glad you like it. The paddles are fun to use when driving fast on curvy roads, love it.

That's true if your everyday driver is a Toyota Corolla or Nissan Altima. However, not true when you've already invested to daily drive an Audi Quattro. Check out this review. I'm not aware if they have since been unseated from the throne.
