You WILL need a dremmel to remove the one-time use clamp from the "T" fitting on the drivers side. No clue why Audi used that. A bit ridiculous.

Cut the stock line on the drivers sided per AMS

Stock heat exchanger compared to the AMS unit

    New exchanger mounted up

You may need to slightly bend this bracket on the AMS kit. My guess is that it potentially becomes dis-figured during the welding process. Not a huge deal

I had some help from a few buddies over having a few beers during this

AMS recommends mounting the relay and fuse holder to the firewall using a nut and bolt through pre-drilled holes. I have a CR-15 cross member that blocks access/space to utilize those predrilled holes.

    We had to improvise.

There is a sensor on the second firewall (maybe a YAW sensor?) that we mounted the relay underneath, then mounted the fuse holder to a different previously factory installed mounting point utilizing a plastic "speed nut." Looks pretty decent.

Everything is all wired up. Filled with coolant now, too. I'd guess that capacity increased by 1.25-1.5 gallons over stock.

We put the car back down on the ground to complete the bleeding process. This is important as I can see a guy having problems if the rear is down and the front is up (the exchanger sits high when the car is at this angle).

Bleeding the system. Heater on full bore, reservoir weeps first, then the exchanger, then the two supercharger bleeders.

New fuel line and wiring looks great (it's hard to see, which was the point)!

Next morning, after drinking some beers the previous night, decided to put the bumper cover back on today.

New fuel line and wiring on passenger side

    New wiring on drivers side

Overall, the car seems to run smoother (definitely the new plugs with a consistent gap). Car also seems to feel snappier up top, too (probably also the plugs).

There's one last Wednesday left for test and tune at Sac raceway. Hopefully I can get in an 11 second pass. If no, there's still a bit more left in it once GIAC releases their dual pulley file for the B8.5

We also tried to test fit one of my wheels onto the JHM S5 to see if the 382mm BBK could be in my future. 19" is just enough of a wheel diameter to house those brakes. Unfortunately, the offset of my wheels did not clear the caliper (a 5mm spacer would put me HARD into the front fenders). Not looking to change wheels/fitment for a brake setup at this time, so we'll have to figure something out later.

    Stay tuned!

Where did you grab the B8 hard lines for the cooling? I have a heat exchanger coming on a B8.5 and I'm urging to fund the best way to install a similar exchanger and all the fittings needed.

You've gotta be careful with that. If you run the B8 headlines, you will also need B8 softlines. If you run the B8.5 hard lines, you will need softlines specifically for the B8.5

AMS sells the hardlines with their kit (included). This is also why their kit is more expensive for the B8.5.

If you bought a kit for the B8.5, you will need to reuse your hardlines (assuming you are in a B8.5).

If you bought a kit for a B8, you will need B8 hard lines (again, assuming you own a B8.5).

Well, we confirmed today that my car does not have the "HiRev" file from GIAC. My car had been topping out between 6,700 and 6,800 (pulling throttle and fuel).

Going to get reflashed here soon with the HiRev file (which I understand gives me the full 7,200).

Feeling better and better everyday that this car will hit the 11s, this year. Definitely once the B8.5 DP file is released!

You'll get the 11's. If you can manage a 1.7x 60, you should be able to squeeze out a nice time with your setup. I remember Auditude went 11.80s@117 with a giac stage 2 tune on the stock clutch a while back. Haven't seen any MT cars run on race gas since his pass. Good luck!

Not sure exactly what you are saying here so I will add a bit more.

B8.5 hard tubing both exit on the drivers side as the OE heat exchanger was redesigned.
B8 hard tubing has an exit on each side. (You can see this in the picture above)

If you are installing an aftermarket HX with the exception of the Forge kit I would recommend grabbing the B8 tubing for a cleaner run.

You will likely need to pickup some additional tubing from the automotive store but it is nothing special.

I just took a piece of my OE tubing in to the store with me and had them match it to one of their spools they had in the back.

There is a decent chance I will be installing a PLM kit with B8 tubing and a reservoir to divorce the loop sometime in the next month or two if you wanted to wait.

If you want the B8 tubing here is a link for it on ECS: https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_S4...ger/ES1598497/

You can find used ones for about half of this if you're crafty

Yeah, you probably did a better job of explaining it than I did. I was trying to explain that the softline (rubber) plumbing between the different hardline versions will be different. In my opinion, an aftermarket HE install is cleaner with the B8 hardlines.

Got the car retuned today with the high-rev file at IPB Autosport in Sacramento. Thank you to Ron at IPB and Seth at GIAC.

Initial impressions is that the car is QUICKER! Those extra 600 or so revs in the "fun area" helped ALOT.

Won't get a chance to go back to the strip until probably the first or second week of the new year. I've gotta be hunting down 11s!

Oh, and also had a bombtastic brunch with the old lady

    Today was a good day.

Well folks, I've moved into the stage where I will start ditching the "pretty wheels" when I go to the track. New trackers weigh in at 42ish per corner. Haven't weighed my pretty shoes yet, but I'm guessing 55+ per corner.

Hunting for 11s and another .5 MPH+ in trap to snag the 6 speed MT record (until someone bests it, enter APR in 2 weeks?).

18X8.5" Ultraleggeras on 245 PSS compared with AG 9.5"on 255/265 XL DWs.

Reason: car will not pull less than 1.8# (with multiple drivers including world record-holder drivers from JHM). Outta the hole with 1.8# + 92 1/8 is low for a 26 MPH long end car.

    Consistent 25+ backhalf car...

Stay tuned folks! Keep pushing this platform!

    104. Full weight (including spare and tools) probably 50 lbs of gear for work.

Still waiting for GIAC to publicly release their DP file. Getting irritated with the wait... Hopefully soon.

    Lensch09 - 2016 Daytona Grey B8.5 S4 Build (6MT)

Project to get rid of some of the drone is underway.

Noico 80mil under the spare tire carpet (can't even tell it's there) and Dyanamat Extreme on both sides of the rear deck.

Also going to do some Noico 80mil under the rear bench.

Hopefully takes away some the drone that the AWE track makes.

Awesome Lensch. I'm very curious to hear your update as to if this worked well or not. I also have the Track and would do this in a heartbeat, provided you find out that it can somewhat alleviate the drone. Great idea.

Final product didn't work well (doesn't stick to liner). I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board and re-think. I'm thinking applying the product under the rubberized cargo-mat might work? Try that next.

Ran the light weight wheels at the JHM BBQ on the new GIAC DP tune, couldn't seem to keep traction. 60' definitely lacks on the 245 cross-sections. Didn't even bother to toy with tire-pressures with that track-prep.

    Ran multiple 11.9x at 118ish

Probably going to put them back up for sale, or throw on slicks.

Back on wider wheels and tires now. Car absolutely loves it.

Ran it once decently, shut it down, and went home. Seeping water pump and a previously popped SC belt had me concerned about driving home 87 miles.

Rear bench and passenger seat pulled. Spare, tools, work equipment (2 laptops, presentation tools, suits and shoes), and fuel put me at 3850 for race weight (without me in the car, I weigh 226). Driving the 99 sucks when you worry about flats (3 replaced tires and 1 windshield per year, for me)

Ran the 19X9.5 wheels, too. They obviously hook better than the light weight OZ

DA was around 400 on your typical Sac Raceway prep (not great). It is an NHRA track though, so this is legit.

I'm thinking 11.5s or better are possible on negative DAs (sure wish I could get those -1500 ones), a ported blower, and slicks, I think!

Next mod, brakes. Got a great deal on low mileage ECS rotors from a buddy who upgraded to bigger stuff. Adding in Hawk HOS 5.0 pads.

Gonna stay on the wider wheels... car just won't hook up on 18s.

ECS LW rotors are now installed along with Hawk HPS 5.0 pads. Feels pretty much the same with my driving style. But, less weight, and less dust!

I wonder how much the weight savings will affect your 1/4 times or traps.

I am not sure. My times last weekend were done with an extra 100lbs or so in the trunk as I was going to visit my folks afterward.

Even with the extra weight, I was still running consistently faster than I had the following time out.

    100 lbs < 1000' DA, can't conclude anything else

I know, right? These guys running in -500 to -1000 DAs a few months ago posting great times stating DA had nothing to do with anything.... Yesh, yeah right. When I ran the 11.7, it was 400 DA. I would imagine the drop from 1400 to 400 would be just as significant as the drop from 400 to -500 (pending traction isn't an issue, which I have sorted out, now).

I'm not going back to the track until October or November. I know better, and I know how much mine falls off when the temps climb. To me, it's not worth the stress on the car trying to re-set a record with a high DA.

I made some 3d printed caps to clip into the holes in the trunk (on a b8.5 s5). if you have access to a 3d printer, i can send you over the file.
