Nice. Well I don't know when you come back to the states. But My guess from seeing last year deliveries you should expect around July 4th if your close to the east or west coast. I think most people's pre orders started showing up around early to mid june at the ports but couldn't be released until around the 4th. If you dig up the 2015 thread you can get a good estimate when you should see yours.

Damn near pulled the trigger on H&R Street performance series or KWV1 but I can't decide for sure because I've read hit/miss reviews of the KW series coilovers on the B8 chassis. Gonna have to think a bit more about this before pulling the trigger on suspension. Parts will pile up... car gets built in 3 weeks... I tour Ingolstadt on June 15th, should be fun! Will keep everyone updated!

The car is officially stateside! The dealership provided me with the vin# on Tuesday this week!

I fly back to the states in 3 weeks, and it appears that my car will beat me to Iowa by about 10 days.

After PDI, the car is getting paint-protection applied. I decided to go with the "full-frontal" package. The car will be getting Xpel Ultimate applied to the full front bumper, full hood, full front fenders, full mirror caps, door caps, door pulls, and top of the rear bumper (in the case that me or one of my friends doesn't carefully place or remove golf bags/luggage).

I have a tint appointment for August 17th (my third day with the car) to have 35% film applied all-around (3M color-stable film)

Also, I've acquired more parts (should all deliver in the next 10 days I hope):

This is great news for you. I placed my order for a 2016 S4 on June 30 and expect delivery somewhere between the latter part of September to early October... hopefully. The wait is murder, though I have ordered cars before. The longest I waited was 13 weeks 3 days for an '88 Mustang LX 302. Stupid government mandates were the holdup on that one.

Didn't take delivery of the car over here. I want the clear bra installed before I put too many miles on the car, Also, I was concerned with the car getting damaged in transit to the U.S. after I've already "taken possession" of the car in Germany. I've read some horror stories of people going without a car for months while Audi/transport company/3rd party insurance go about fighting for who pays the repairs (all the while the owner of the vehicle has no car, is making payments, is paying insurance, now has a mark on the Carfax report for damage, and will also have to pay for a loaner out of their own pocket). Sounds like a shit deal to me. I got 90% of the experience, with NONE of the risk

I'm also talking with my tuning shop owner (Kevin Lichty) to try and decide if we will want to replace some of the torque-to-yield bolts when we install the coilovers...we will see...

Menzerna Super Finish SF-4000 to clean up any imperfections once I get it home from the dealership
(2) 5.5" Lake Country CCS pads for my PC7424
500 ml. CarPro Eraser Intense Oil & Polish Cleanser (for pre-cleaning)
30 ml. Carpro Cquartz Kit (plus install sponge, etc)
500 ml. CarPro Reload Spray Sealant to level off between Cquartz applications (I will do two coats) and also to maintain
AWE Vent-mounted boost gage and 3.0T boost tap.

All torque-to-yield bolts will be replaced when doing the coilover install! Lichty thinks "by the book" is the best way... I was leaning towards this approach as well when I asked the question in the first place. Great minds think alike... New TTY bolts should be here prior to installation.

I believe those bolts are not torque to yield, I don't recall additional turns after hitting the torque specs- just some blue loctite.

Also let me know how your install goes for the boost gauge, I want to do one but am hesitant since the trim in the 8.5 is one solid piece all the way around the cluster and MMI.

I am jealous of your plateless grille though, mine had the plate drilled in already so I'll be having to get a new BO one/RS4 possibly. The BO grille is actually quite nice. Congrats on the car, let the hurry up and wait begin!

Yes, I was so focused on ED, but Audi has a new shipping vendor (I believe since last year or the year before) and the delivery time seems to be averaging close to 2 months if not over - without issues, longer with. I couldn't afford 2 months of payments on two cars lol.

That is so exciting you can upgrade all the stuff. Hopefully you'll get to drive it pre-mod so you can really feel the difference once they're in. I sure can with my CO's.

Okay, I HOPE these are the last purchases I make before I pick up the car from the dealership:


-VAG-COM HEX+CAN (official version from Ross-Tech). I have access to this tool through others. But, lets face it, I've been in the Audi/VW game for over 10 years. It makes absolutely no sense why I haven't picked this up, yet (at least not an official version). Time to bite the bullet and get one to call my own.


-Oil level dipstick. North American S4s come equipped with a dipstick tube, but also with a temporary, non-permanent plug installed into the end of that tube . I'll remove the plug, and run a proper dipstick (which comes standard on RoW S4s). I would rather check my oil via a mechanical indicator every few fuel fill-ups (which takes all of 20 seconds and is always accurate) rather than going through the MMI system and checking the level electronically (which may or may not be accurate, and takes some time to do it correctly).


-30 pin to Lightning adapter for the MMI system.


Also, I got scheduled in for tint. I will be having 3M Color Stable applied to everything but the windshield (35%).

I'm in various large scale manufacturing facilities for work at least a few times a month. The Audi plant is impressive, yes. But, it really wasn't anything that I wasn't at least half-expecting. To me, the most interesting part of the whole facility is the aluminum body shop for the A3. At full bore, they can turn out ~2000 A3 bodies per day (across 3 shifts). The interesting part: due to the high levels of automation, the entire staff of 3 shifts equates to less than 100 people (less than 35 per shift).

Ingolstadt as a whole is kind of a boring town. If you or anyone else goes to Audi Ingolstadt, I highly recommend staying in Munich the night before.

Lastly, from Emden to dealership (in Iowa), was 4 weeks. That's FANTASTIC for that freight lane. It also helps that they went straight to port in NJ, rather than going through Halifax, first.

The transmission bolts are TTY, the others are not. I picked them all up anyways (incase one snaps, or some other unfortunate event occurs).

I have tools to remove interior panels. I've looked at the DIY, and removing that panel appears as though it will be a bit "awkward," if that's a descriptive word for that process? The largest challenge will not be getting the clips to release, it will be trying to get the trim panel to clear the instrument cluster with the steering wheel closely on the other side. I may remove the panel and have it painted piano-gloss-black while it's out. We will see...

Ah different experiences for different backgrounds lol. I come from MBE world, so the manufacturing facilities we access are much less automated. TBH I was a little scared - was expecting the robotics revolution to hit while we were in there, screaming Audiphiles being mauled by giant robotic arms lol. I will say I was totally impressed by the A3 body shop as well. Just for the quality and accuracy, although I missed the part of the 2000 bodies output with 100 workers lol. That's impressive for sure.

I want the swinging chair the lady had that installed the interior stuff.

My car should be inside until I take delivery. Full front clip is getting Xpel Ultimate applied. Rest of the car is two coats of Cquartz (Xpel will also get one coating of Cquartz).

I've also got a 1990 Chevy Silverado 1500 (2WD gasser with only 71,### miles) that requires me to wear flannel shirts and wrangler jeans paired to white new balance tennis shoes. That truck makes my manhood go from 6 to midnight, every time.

On a side-note, I'm a bit sad to have learned that the swaybars from Eurocode are still backordered for an additional 4-6 weeks. Other than that, very excited!

Additional thoughts: GOD DAMN THOSE AMBER TURN SIGNALS ARE HIDEOUS!!! I've seen euro-spec'd vehicles everyday over here in Germany for the last 2 years. Because of this, I've become a bit numb towards not seeing orange blinkers on every car. Now, looking at photos of mine, it's ridiculous how awful those amber turns are. Good thing my Ecodes are already on a boat headed towards the US (should port into Norfolk on or around Aug 20, then hop a train to Chicago, and I'll have them by the end of August).

Wrapping up things here in the office until Tuesday, then putting the final touches on solidifying everything for the move back. Exciting stuff! Only 8 more days!!!
