2013 allroad- rear cargo area rattle/squeak GONE!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After months of driving me crazy, two trips to the dealership -- I have finally found and fixed the noise that was making me crazy.

It was coming from the latch where the rear seats lock in with the seat backs up. I applied a small amount of the fuzzy part of Velcro around the post and put the seats back up. It locks into place without any force.

After several bumpy road test drives --- the noise is gone. Pictures to come.

I also did the exact thing on my Touareg 10 years ago for a similar sound, so why it took me so long to figure this out has me wondering.

    That would drive me crazy.

Whenever I hear something I go hunting around trying to quell the noise.

Now your can drive in peace.

OH MY GOD! I'm having the same problem with my 2-week old AR!. It's been driving me nuts. There are SOOO many things that rattle in the back of the AR! The tool kit. The air compressor. The floor/spare tire cover. The cargo cover has been my biggest offender so far. Just removed it yesterday along with the vertical shade. I put the shade back and it was not the problem. It's quiet now, but I did notice how much noise the back seats make, too.

No rattle issues with my Allroad. I removed those shades because they get in the way. I also applied second skin soundproofing in wheel well area underneath the felt carpet. Also applied to the rear corners behind the side compartments. There are a lot of parts from the spare tool kit, plus that air compressor gadget underneath temporary spare. I actually removed the spare tire and just use a can of fix-a-flat wrapped in rubber mat to prevent rattling.

    Ahhh!

My Avant has had that obnoxious rattle ever since I swapped my beige seats for some black allroad seats. I actually taped the entirety of that latch with a lot of electrical tape, but it did absolutely nothing... I will source some velcro and do the same, pronto!

    Thanks for posting!

Thanks for sharing! Took my Allroad in for an annoying rattle and they said it was the third brake light. Supposedly fixed it, but the noise was still there. They ultimately blamed my car being lowered as the cause (BS). I took the upper headliner off (where the hatch arms/ auto lift motors are) and found both the lift motors were missing the fastener bolts. Found the bolts at the bottom of the c pillars near the speakers. Re-installed them with generous amounts of locktite and have been good ever since. However, I still have another annoying noise/ rattle I think the OP method might help.

My Allroad rattle as well and it turn out to be the panoramic sunroof. When it's open, there's no rattle. When it's closed u'll hear it.

t28: I know this is an old thread but wanted to thank you. This is exactly what was causing the impossible-to-find rattle in the back of my '13 allroad. Sure enough, a fastener had fallen off and was rolling back an forth inside the headliner every time I went over a bump. Mystery solved!

Can someone explain how to remove the section of headliner that covers the liftgate motors? Thanks!

I’m pretty sure it’s just metal clips that hold it in, @avantagg would know for sure.

Pull wicked hahhhd! Just kidding. But if I remember correctly it will slide out with some force. I think there are just three clips holding it in place as @bakedziti mentioned.

We recently bought an A3 to use as a "go to the train station" car.
    Gnarly squeak.
Turned out to be the spare tyre cover was rubbing on the plastic latch on the strap that holds the jack in place.
Reoriented the strap and squeak = dead.

    cheers

We had a 2007 A3 Premium and had minimal interior rattles at 290,000 miles, totally a SOLID car- it was stock sport suspension, and no structural or suspension mods and it did not have opensky.. it was always enjoyable to drive, except when the rear seat center armrest are down. That piece of shitty plastic (yes it broke the latch early in it's years of service) was noisy! The rear seat latch was something I learned from my previous 1999 Passat 1.8t Wagon, which I applied to the A3 and never did have any rattle on that area. Fast forward this year and we obtained a pre-owned 2015 Allroad- and I can hear annoying rattles in the back (typical rattle i heard when i had my passat wagon). Here are my fix: Rear seat latch, taken care of, slots where the rear cargo covers rest, solved by putting foam liner liner on each side (get them from art/craft store). As for the Rear seat center armrest-- hopeless... so just keep it close (even then it still rattles a bit)

Treginginco, do you still have a picture of your velcro fix? I've got a creak on my Allroad that sure sounds like it's coming from a similar spot. Thanks!

It's not that hard to visualize without a picture...

Fold seats down. Wrap fuzzy Velcro around post where the seat latch connects. Problem solved.

The Velcro makes the post a little larger in diameter so that the seat latch can firmly attach without rattling as well as minimizing the metal to metal contact.

Oh, that's easy enough. Thanks. Hopefully that's my issue!
