    key fob not working.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    hey guys,

im at work and was planning on going to lunch but when i went to unlock my car, the fob would no longer work the light flashes but thats it, i unlocked manually thru the key hole but when i went to start the car, it turned over but then automatically turn off. on the odometer it says the word safe on it.

i googled a few ways to "reprogram" the fob but none of them work, any other ideas?

    thanks.

Not sure if this would happen due to a dead battery in the key fob? Total guess.

Try this. Get in the car, hold the unlock button on the key fob while sticking the key in the ignition. Keep the button held down, start the car, wait a couple seconds then turn the car off take the key out and then release the button.

the battery has never died, i actually drove the car 3-4 hours prior, i have no clue what happened, the car turns over for about 2-3 seconds then turns itself off, seems like something to do with the immobilizer
and on the odometer it says "safe".

It should work. Just use some rope or wire or whatever to keep the positive and negative cables connected for 10 minutes...unless you want to stand there and hold them.

I disconnected the negative on my battery tonight while swapping my seats and afterwards the fob wouldn't work.
I was able to start the car and drive, but it won't lock or unlock the car via the remote. I had to do it manually with the key. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Check your owner's manual. There's a procedure for pairing the key fob with the car. Pretty simple if I remember right, something like putting the key in the ignition, locking and unlocking the car..something along those lines.

This works. Repeatedly lock and unlock, hold windows up for a few seconds etc. You can also just drive around for a while and it comes back

Ok so I started my car today and while I was idling I looked through the manual to find the procedure. I shut the car off and got out and the remote started working again without me doing anything. I guess it re learned on its own.

Just in case this ever pops up in a search though, here's a picture of the procedure from the owners manual:

Since the immobilizer is not going to let the car run he is certainly not going to be able to drive it around. Which I already stated.

You obviously have something up your ass today trying to criticize when someones offering help , so I won't get too involved with you.

Look at who I was quoting in the previous statement you posted. I was helping DannyDeez with his dilemma.

Yes you quoted me saying "his car will not start." Then you said, "Please tell me where it says his car would not start." It is hard to keep track of who are are and aren't helping when people are hijacking threads.

It's not hijacking a thread when people are helping others with similar issues. That's what we as a community are here for.

Now, do you honestly have nothing better to do? You come on and make a stupid accusation and continue to rant about it, "hijacking" the thread yourself about complete nonsense. If you weren't so damn lazy, you would look at the previous 2 comments above mine and notice that Kegobeer, DannyDeez and myself were helping each other out.

    Seriously, just drop it already

Yeah. I am on a crazy rant. Woah look out :) This is getting super intense. I can just feel my laptop battery heating up from your rag. I mean rage.

Let me cut in..... My car has similar issues as the OP. But I go through this process various times a week. I do the reset as the manual states but a couples of days after my key FOB wont work again. Any ideas why this might be? Already replaced the battery if anyone was wondering. Thanks in advance.

mccorkled & schweini, you may resume your banter now.
