I few days ago I noticed when the car was cold, it would make a noise when it shifted. Warmed up it stopped the noise. I didn't beat on it when the car was cold. Since then, I knew it was only a matter of time until the trans puked. Now starting yesterday, at random times, the torque converter comes out of lock up and tries locking back up and jerks/shutters and stumbles in doing so... the car also has hard shifts sometimes, or misshifts (which I thought was a valve body) but could those other issues be a bad torque converter? I paid 1500 for the car, would it be worth it to get it rebuilt? Maybe it's just the torque converter, idk

Before it's mentioned, I've thought for a long time about dropping a 6spd in. I'd love to, but I don't have the time, nor the resources

I believe a 6-speed swap will run much cheaper than a repair on your tip. It's obviously a longer project, but I've heard low end quotes of $4000 for a rebuild.

I believe so as well. Gonna have to make some calls today. Few reputable shops I know over in RI. I know the torque converters are prone to go out themselves, but the issues don't happen all the time. The trans was 'supposedly' replaced when I got the car, but I have no idea if the torque converter was done too. I'd hope it was..

Hopefully someone else will chime in, but as I understand it, when the tc lets go it contaminates the entire system. This would include the transmission, torque convertor, transmission lines and radiator.

For sure. I've dealt with my fair share of trans. Just not an Audi...
