    SQ5 Average MPG?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What's everybody getting? So far I'm 17MPG, but I've been breaking her in with 5k WOT blasts in 3rd or 4th, and then deceleration, usually on the highway. Prob not good for fuel economy.

These things are hard to drive slow, but I was curious if anyone else had any averages logged?

Logged 25 mpg today during my 30 mile commute with about 80% highway. Much better than my winter setup getting only 21-22 mpg

Yep... I've taken her out of dynamic once since I've had her just to see how quiet she got. whilt it was cool that I could hear the S/C, I put it back to Dynamic about 1 minute later.

Oh, and I use paddles WAY too much... Good thing gas is cheap these days!!! I have some oil stock though, so its a win/win. :)

Averaging about 19, but only because of a few long highway trips (600+ miles) with Cruise engaged.

Driving in auto mode I can get around 23-24 mpg on the freeway as long as I keep at a consistent speed and am not flooring it to pass too much, and around town is in the 14-15 mpg range. This is not an economical beast by any stretch of the imagination.

I was getting 23mpg in my A7 driving the same way... Same engine with 44 less HP and I know SQ is heavier... I'll take 17mpg for this amount of fun. Anyone else looking for excuses to drive?

seems like us CA folks (and others that can only get 91oct fuel) are seeing slightly worse averages. i have a 3.0T and get way less than 20mpg driving around SF. on my trips to and from LA, the mpg can get close to 26-27mpg, but only if i'm not driving around 70mph.

Wow, this is crazy! I was getting around those figures on my 4.2L V8 B7 RS4 which is why I switched to the SQ, now I'm getting 40+MPG but then we do have the diesel version in europe... I was only getting low 30's until I fitted the DTUK tuning box, now I can easily get high 30's/low 40's on the freeway.. Local average is high 20's/low 30's, depends how I burn it...

Anyone know the thinking behind the TFSI in the States? Is diesel just generally unpopular?

Supposedly we didn't get the TDI SQ5 because it would have required AdBlue.

Yep read the same thing. Adblue was to hard to engineer into this platform for US...

What made it so difficult to engineer?

The US 3.0TDI already has AdBlue. The SQ5 TDI and 3.0 TDI are basically the same engine with the only difference being the extra turbo. I was under the impression that even with AdBlue added to the SQ5 twin turbo TDI, it wouldn't still fall under the emission regulations and that is why they didn't bring it to the US.

Well, since it is written by a freelancer who doesn't provide a source for his blanket statement, I guess I have to assume it is BS. It's strange that not one other notable publication has referenced this supposal statement by Audi that this author is quoting.

Overall, the statement just doesn't make sense since AdBlue is already integrated into the Q5 architecture with the 3.0 TDI. Very odd.

You def have a valid point! For whatever reason...while the tfsi sounds great, and performs , I would have loved the diesel version for numerous reasons...

I have put 250 miles on my SQ5 and am seeing 27mpg. It has almost exclusively been highway driving.

But let's remember, 40mpg on the Euro cycle is going to be different from the USA standard.

I would also guess that the A7 aerodynamics are a bit better than the SQ5 as well. We didn't buy the SQ5 for its economy, now, did we?

Touché sir... Touché... I expected to take a hit on MPG...

Do you think lowering SQ would help with Cd?

I was just curious because I thought I'd be closer to 20mpg... So, last tank I got 18.5MPG... Driving harder as she's broken in, but more highway. Yayyyy (special Ed voice)...

Either way I'll take it... What's a little Dino juice now and then anyhow?

I just tested this to see if you were BS-ing or not... So put on my blue hair wig, and drove in comfort to the high way, and then set cruise to 65 for my 16 mile drive home.

Got 27.3MPG... Door to door... No BS. I have pics to prove it. 16 miles driven, average speed 48, 27.3MPG.

It is just so painful to drive 65 in this damn thing... Even MORE painful not to accelerate hard enough for the exhaust burps.

Oh well... good to know its there should I feel like hyper miling, and EXTREMELY impressive for a 354HP CUV...

fuel efficiency seems to really take a hit once you start going over 70mph. i've driven several times from SF to LA and back, and now i just set cruise ~72mph. i can squeeze out over 500 miles on one tank at those speeds, and typically average over 26mpg after i mix in some local driving once i'm at my destination.
