Fuel rail pressure too high cel

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i got a cel for "fuel rail pressure too high" p0088 and "cold start fuel pressure performance" p053F.

I changed the fuel pressure sensor on the rail and the regulator sensor and nothing still getting a code. I don't know where else to check from here. Anyone have prior experience with this?

What kind of car? I've seen this before on a chain-driven 2.0T and it was because the intake camshaft is out of time. You'll have to pull the front timing chain cover to check timing. If it's the belt-driven 2.0T I have no idea.

Also, charge the battery on your phone

And i just had my valve cover gasket changed so it makes sense because they need to release tension in the timing chain to do this job

why would a valve cover gasket have anything to do with your timing chain tension?

On the b8 the only way to safely raise the valve cover off u need to release pressure on the cams so u open the timing chain cover and release pressure on the tensioner and raise the valve cover so the car wont jump timing

Ha well I guess your specialist can just keep throwing parts at it until it gets fixed then. After the injectors you'll be doing the low side fuel pump, then the fuel pump control module, then the ECM. I doubt any of these will fix your problem.

I'm telling you bro, it's timing. Put the crank in time and measure between the marks on the cams. It should be 125-127mm. If it's outside that range, timing is off. When the intake cam gets one tooth off it won't set a timing fault or run very bad.

I happen to be an Audi specialist, too.

Yeah, pull the upper timing chain cover and put the engine at TDC. There are two marks on the crank pulley and when the engine is at TDC one mark will point to 12 o'clock and the other will be at around 5 o'clock. The 5 o'clock mark needs to line up with a tiny triangle that's cast into the lower timing chain cover. That mark is super hard to find and you'll probably have to feel for it.

Once that is done look at the cam sprockets, they should have marks on them pointing upwards. The exhaust cam has a triangle cast into the sprocket and the intake cam had a line drawn on the cam adjuster sprocket. If these aren't pointing up you are on the wrong stroke so turn the engine over one more time and line up the crank pulley again.

Once the marks on the cams are pointing upwards take a tape measure and measure directly between the marks, the spec is 126mm +\- 1 mm.

There may be marks on the valve cover also but these aren't there from the factory and you can't go by these. They were made by a mechanic at some point to use as a guide.

2009 A4 2.0 tfsi. Don't mean to bring this thread back from the dead but im also getting the P0088. Recently had the engine rebuilt after the timing chain tensioner failed. Sent the head out to get refurbished, pistons and rods was replaced. I assembled everything myself, i tripple checked everything. Car runs fine smooth idle no misfire no other codes and after reading this post i went ahead and check the timming again and everything was within spec. Fuel pressure sensor was also replaced on the fuel rail.

Same issue here on my 2014, did you ever find out what was causing the p0088? Mine seems to pop on in cold weather here in Chicago

I’m having the exact same issue. Rebuilt motor, timing, and all fuel and ignition addressed and still having this code, only thing I haven’t don’t is the fuel pressure regulator. I do have a stage one tune but have noticed the code is intermittent and only misfires under wide open throttle, maybe 2-3 misfires
