    Compression Test Results

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My car is one that likes to burn oil between oil changes to the point the light comes on once or twice every 10,000. So i decided to do a compression test to see what the numbers were.

    1:170
    2:160
    3:162
    4:170

From what I've read, anything between 150-170 the compression is fine. << not sure if that is true for our 2.0T's.

-The question that I have is, Why would cylinder 2 & 3 lower?

-Should i perform a leak down test to check the rings or would my compression be a lot worse if the rings were bad?

-Where could the oil be going? The PCV was changed by the dealer prior to purchase over a year ago.

That should be no cause for alarm. You can do a leakdown test to be sure, but those look fine to me. Your oil consumption doesn't sound terrible. I'm using a quart every 500 miles. I've narrowed the cause down to the turbo needing rebuilt.

Almost positive that oil is not approved for your car, the only Mobil 1 that is approved is 0w40

In your previous post you said Mobil 1 5w30 Mobil 1 which is not approved - the Mobil Syst S Special V 5w30 is approved, but i would not put that oil in my german car. Different base stock than Mobil 1. The Mobil Syst S ESP 5w30 which you now list in your second post is still NOT approved.

Mobil 1 0w40 is what you need

Not a real significant difference there. Mr. Bentley says the limit is 3 bar difference between cylinders, your is less than 1 bar.

Excessive oil in the inner cooler, smoke from the exhaust, shaft play.
What ever makes sense go with the opposite and you got it

Interesting, I am also at about 500-700 miles a quart. Why did you determine turbo and what else have you ruled out? Is there a reason you did not consider piston rings? I fixed all my leaks, except oil filter housing. I've only owned the car for say, 2k miles, but I am going to do the first oil change on her since the dealership did when I bought her.

Thinking of going Rotella T6 with a MANN filter.

You are down 1 quart from full when the light comes on. (So you have 4 qts in the pan)

I did a compression test and leakdown test to rule out piston rings. I also only have ~40k miles on my engine build.
Replaced turbo oil drain line to make sure it was draining freely.
Replaced valve cover with new oem part.
Replaced BSH revamp plate with old catch can setup with no change.

At this point, the only thing I can think of is the turbo. I bought a rebuild kit, so we'll see how it goes. I've been running 5W-40 Rotella T6 and Mann filters for about a year and a half now.

I have the same issue. I find it is exacerbated by stepping on the throttle excessively but I mostly go through a quart every oil change (5k miles)

Yeah my car burns quite a bit, too at 115k. Compression is good (185-195 on all cylinders). I drained a couple tablespoons of oil from the intercoolers last week during the timing belt change and then cleaned them out completely with gasoline. Doesn't bother me too much. Consumption seemed to decrease a little bit after carbon cleaning.
