1250 miles, APR Stage 1 tune, AWE Exhaust + 034 Trans Mount

    just got all 3 installed.

APR Stage 1 - holy cow...actually this is a dangerous mod...i found myself looking at the HUD and realizing suddenly i was 75. The custom tune is really well done - if there's anything to notice, it's that the engine temps are running a little higher (but that's to be expected of course and goes along with the fact that there's not enough air breathing in the 4.0T). A buddy's S4 was with me and he said even rolling at 70mph when i just dropped it in the middle of the rev range - he had to downshift to redline just to catch up? I honestly didn't think it was that big of a difference, but that's his observations from behind me.

AWE exhaust - i am honestly super surprised by how i cannot hear anything in the cabin...the only time I've heard anything is consistent with everyone else - 75+ and you hear a more pronounced grumble. The start up growl is fun and when it idles it's very smooth. Mine aren't aligned 100% at the moment, but they did say it may take some settling before they re-adjust. But the Chrome tips look great for non-black optics models. The downshift burble is quite honestly amazing.

034 Trans mount - quite simply 1-2-3 and then back down to 1.....is completely smooth; even with tune. It has completely smoothed out all shudders I've felt previously -

overall, very happy - and it's 60 degrees outside!

Is that was the shudder is caused by when this thing downshifts? I've noticed when in sport mode, from 2-1 it has a noticeable roughness when it engages first gear... however, when in regular D mode, this is not noticeable?

ive noticed it in all drive modes and S or D. So for me it was an amazing change. I did not drive less aggressive, actually quite the opposite with the tune.

I can attest to that part... it's a different car. Like going from a Mustang GT, to a Corvette.

Yeah, it's a problem with all slip-fit exhausts I've ever had... Just get a few heat cycles in the exhaust, and then align the mufflers/tips again. They shouldn't move or need re-alignment after that.

The majority of aftermarket Japanese exhausts (and I've owned several on my old Subarus) use exhaust flanges + bolts to secure the connections.

I couldn't agree more regarding the tune, I recently went REVO and have a Supersprint exhaust and the difference is amazing.

It also changed the tone of the exhaust on full song, but the torque increase is stupid.

I'm interested in the trans mount, does it really make that much difference in an auto? I thought mine stock was pretty smooth.

Yeah, the tune really is amazing. Downshift burble in sport mode + tune is the coolest shit ever...really mimics the way the DB9 behaves during cruising. Just from brake stop to full pedal is ridiculous and we don't even have the updated APR tune yet. I've yet to try and see what it'd be like with launch control.

with regards to the trans mount - if you ever cruised around even in Comfort mode - there is a very noticeable DSG clunk when it drops from 3rd gear. Now, you may not have noticed because you are used to DSG Transmissions, but as my GT-R was never a true DD because i still had the Volvo, it was a significant annoyance to me. Even with the tune, and even with the car in Sport mode and doing it's down shift burbles - I felt no shudder/clunkiness. It is by far one of the biggest improvements bang for the buck.

actually - the one thing i will say is this - i have the 20" rims with summer pirelli tires... before the tune, they felt fine...but now after the tune? I feel like i have to switch to MPSS because even though they are probably rated the same, it just still doesn't feel right (i'm not breaking loose, but i can feel like i could?) -

You will not regret that decision if you do go to PSS. They feel more in tune with the road if that makes sense. A group of us went to the MFEST (BMW) in Austin TX over the weekend and we took a great route with many twists. Even though I have the sways I know the pirellis would not have the same effect as the PSS. It was fun as hell!

Thanks, its so cheap I guess I would be crazy not to do it. I had the 034 mount on my S5 and it was a nice upgrade.

What does the APR update tune improve? I wanted to go APR but it was so much more than REVO down here in Australia I just couldn't justify the additional expense.

REVO has a different reputation in your neck of the woods anyway. But the APR tune @ 93 octane gave me ~ +100HP +130 TQ in the mid-range of my rev band.

That first rush of APR 93 octane is awesome, but the 100 octane will rip your head off. P

At least until you want more ;)

first morning with the AWE Exhaust.

It's roughly 55 degrees outside. When the car started up - it was scary. Probably more along the lines of the bark you hear from an RS7 start up. I wish i could actively cylinder deactivate when i turn on the car and drive out, because i am a little self-conscious of the sound in residential areas.

of course as i passed kids waiting for their stop, the boys started taking photos with their phones...

the one thing I was not anticipating was the road rage....this morning alone...a 13 minute commute for me.... a 2016 CLS550 decided to ride my ass then go around me and cut me off... another 5.0 mustang (same thing happened yesterday), and a plethora of guys in their v8 pickups...

i now know what it feels like to be casted for a scene in mad max (minus actual violence)...

to be honest it's making me second guess my decision on the exhaust because is it just too much attention? I've driven the same route for 4 weeks straight, 1142 miles and i've been near invisible. According to Serpent this is loud outside the car.. I mean, i definitely hear more of the exhaust this morning...I wouldn't call it drone, but it's more akin to being caressed by thor's hammer lightly near your ears.

other than that...APR tune was amazing and then some and I am honestly shocked by how much the characteristics of my car has changed from the mount or mount + tune combo (i wouldn't know).

I am now on a mission to see if I can dial down the loudness in any which way possible....since the valvtronics are taken out - i don't know if the car is any quieter in comfort over dynamic. The only REAL difference is in Sport mode the car does the downshift rev / rev match simulator thing - and THAT really get's heads turning.

A couple of weekends ago at the dealership, the salesperson handed me the keys to a used S4 they had- tune+awe exhaust- right when I was contemplating a switch to an S4 from my A6. Man that was effin loud. And attention grabbing- no fun when you are test driving and a camaro ss guy measures your car front to back- then races you. Man, my wife's in the car with me. Can't race you right now. Anyway, so until I actually get to see and hear an A6 with AWE exhaust , I am holding on to my money. Btw I put the injen intake a few days ago and that s/c whine has made me drive without the music on. I am gunning it frequently just to hear the s/c.

highway drone is only slightly prominent around 75-80 mph - otherwise you know it's there if you're searching for it. This is with AC off and no music!

Low speeds you honestly hear nothing - unless you are in D/S+ mode - then it does the downshift rev matching and your car sounds like an aston martin lol. (i'm not a fan, but it does put a smile on my face).

now remember, the rev matching down shift is part of the tune, not part of the exhaust.

yeah the legamax was awesome - different era in our lives though. although you had CBA so you are one of the originals! I had DBA

Was it the Touring Edition or the Track Edition though? Sounds like the Track Edition, attention grabbing is definitely a good description for it. ;)

overall, very happy - and it's 60 degrees outside!
Defeating drone is what our 180 Technology™ resonators are designed to do! As you have experienced already, outside the car is a different story. You're making everyone around you jealous. That 5.0 Mustang owner was purely upset your car sounded better than his, now he has to sell it and get an Audi.

The exhaust does have some settling in to do yet. I'm hoping you will get used to your sudden celebrity status on the roads and really come to enjoy our system. On a more serious note, do let me know if I can assist you in any way.

We only run tuning sales in conjunction with GIAC, who isn't running anything soon that we know of. Still, come on by!

Glad to hear you're enjoying our C7 Audi RS7 Transmission Mount Insert Upgrade!

I'd love to hear the AWE Exhaust in person; we've only done an Akrapovič RS7 Exhaust install in-house and that sounded pretty awesome. Mike, hopefully we'll be installing one soon!

OP, you'll get used to the exhaust over time. I drive around town in sport mode just to hear the downshifts. I'm sure it's loud outside but I don't care, it sounds glorious. Not obnoxious like most of the aftermarket POS exhausts the mustangs have around here.

actually, day 2- i'm happy to say or unhappy to say that the bark is worse than the bite. When you give the car gas, it's not TERRIBLE...like mik34 says, it sounds more refined..almost like F Type with valves open.

However, the worse part is morning start up. The Bark from the start up is so freaking loud.

On the flip side, i'm into day 2 of my wife not asking me about it, so maybe i'm being overtly paranoid.

Tune wise, I have to say, the biggest benefit, and maybe it was my imagination before, but - has anyone noticed with our cars that when we are going 40-50 mph, and we slow down at a light...if it turns green before we've fully stopped, and we hit the gas again, that there is a MASSIVE plummet in power transfer...and almost like a reverse curve in power. - Anyway, with the tune, ive come to discover that low-mid range power is wonderfully potent. My 40-60 times are drastically improved.

and again, i didnt do apr without the 034 mount - but there has been no shudder on that front at all. So interesting that something like that would not be considered during production.

40-60 is FANTASTIC with the tune...

Well, so is 0-60, 60-100, 0-100, etc, etc... hahaha

When trying to accelerate quickly after braking (like when coming to a stop and the light turns green before fully stopped), there is a VERY noticeable lag before the power comes on. Some sort of programmed-in delay. It's really annoying, and I'd say, kind of dangerous in some situations. If this is what you're talking about, and if the APR tune fixes this, then that's a HUGE plus and major selling point for me with a tune.
