    boost leak? turbo issue??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all,

First time poster and new member here. I have a 2010 Audi a4 2.0t with 63000 miles and have noticed a problem with it since about 55000 miles and have been trying to aleive it ever since.

At around 2800rpm under acceleration the car has a minor loss or hesitation of power until about 3000 rpm. This loss is always accompanied by a whistle noise coming from the engine bay. So it's solid acceleration until 2800, a stutter in power and then fine again at 3000.

in an attempt to fix this I have hit all the easy stuff. I installed new plugs and coils at 60000 and ran Lucas fuel injection cleaner. Any thoughts on where to look next or what to replace? Logic tells me it's some sort of boost leak but it does not throw a code so it's a little annoying. Any help would be appreciated!!

Check your intake for fitment issues? Also do a boost leak test if you can.

I'd start with visual inspection of all hoses and vac lines, do you have a boost gauge or VCDS to pull some logs to see if you're hitting correct boost levels?

the hesitation is actually pretty common around that rpm. It's like a brief fall off in power right? does the rpm drop a little too?

Do you have the updated diverter valve? could be that your old DV isnt holding boost properly. around 3k under heavy load you'd be getting toward the top end of your boost. ECS tuning makes an updated diverter valve for 69 bucks. The new B8.5s have them but the older B8's had weaker ones

I'd check the DV, too. Fairly simple to remove and inspect the diaphragm for a tear. Not sure which model year Audi upgraded the DV.

id also be curious to do a log to see if the car is retarding timing. If so you might have an PCV thats going, carbon-build up or shitty gas

Hope it helps. If its not the issue, at least you know going forward you have a strong new one and any future issues are unlikely related to the DV

Check the valve in your PCV to see if it's stuck open.

Cant make this stuff up...literally leaving my shop after installing the diverter valve some 18 year old girl was not paying attention at an intersection and t-boned me. I maintained my composure but she was flipping out yelling at me like I hit her...the cop set her strait. Her Subaru took some serious front end damage where my a4 took damage to the rear passanger side. Luckily nobody was hurt but I just got my car back after a month of being in the shop.

Anyway...I just checked to see if the diverter valve had fixed the problem and unfortunately it has not....and now I need to get back into contact with the body shop because they did a horrible job and now have a noticeable howl noise on at highway speeds. It sounds like im running studded winter tires in the back. A topic for a new thread but ive been told it could be my differential...so ill have to call progressive again and get this fixed...ugh.

I recently changed my intake manifold and since it has felt very sluggish. Like it can't breathe. Does that make sense?

Will check both of these, dv and pcv. Thanks
