    Forge Motorsport Cooling System Installed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We recently had a chance to install the new cooling system from Forge Motorsport. The kit includes the larger front radiator, coolant reservoir and new hoses. As soon as we unboxed the item, the quality was apparent. The brackets were nicely welded onto the radiator, and you could tell that everything was built specifically to suit the car. The kit came with all new silicone hoses, so we did not need to trim the factory hoses (something that takes a decent amount of time). Forge also added a nice touch on the coolant reservoir by using an OEM cap and machining a Forge cover to fit over that. We've had issues in the past with fully aluminum caps becoming seized on the reservoir after extended driving.

In terms of the install, it went beautifully. Having replacement hoses means that you save a ton of time by not having to cut your OEM hoses, and even better is that you can go back to stock in the future by just swapping hoses (as opposed to buying all new ones since you had to cut the OEM ones). The brackets are already installed on the radiator, so you only need to drill the crash bar for mounting. The reservoir installed using mounting holes that are already on the vehicle, so we did not need to drill any new holes. Overall, we were very impressed with our first experience with the Forge unit, and it will likely be our system of choice from here on out.

Currently, we have limited availability on these units but please contact us for delivery ETA's. Pricing is $1450 shipped in the United States. Available through our website here.

I have one of these waiting to go on, didn't see much point in fitting it during the winter.

Interesting, any picture showing the res installed? I like that it uses a factory cap as an option. One interesting thing is they created a new loop for the coolant instead of the other designs that just have a fill res.

Without a supplemental cooling pump is there a risk of burning out the OEM coolant pump (or otherwise reducing its longevity)?

Also, has anyone installed this yet and care to share your thoughts if so?

Stock pump is fine, all the kits utilize the stock pump

I didn't realize this and please correct me if I'm wrong, but to summarize:
Forge - utilizes stock coolant pump
APR - utilizes stock coolant pump
AWE - utilizes stock coolant pump, but offers upgraded pump that replaces stock pump when ordering full system (to increase flow-rate)
AMS - utilizes stock coolant pump and includes supplemental pump to increase flow-rate

Nice to have a new product on the market, but seems like a high price point, no?

The AWE Coldfront minus the pump would be similar and is approx $1200. So it's close.

Looks like a nice product but a bit pricey.

One thing to note. If the reservoir size was increased then a higher flowing pump should be considered. The stock pump was designed to move a certain amount of liquid through the system in order to dissipate the heat through the core. The increased reservoir only delays heatsoak and will take longer to remove. You reach diminishing returns when increasing core size, the volume of liquid, and even the pump because you have to reach a balance between all these components. I'm not saying the stock pump can't handle the upgrades of the other components, but I do see a potential issue where it can't dissipate the heat fast enough through the system after being driven hard.

Well in the UK no, the US ones are $$ to us lol

e.g. Forge Pully is 1/4 price over APR lol

I am about to pull the trigger on the Alpha cooler (to go with the forthcoming tune). I would not spend the time and money to do a cooler without a circulating pump IMO.

Have you tried a little E85 for it's cooling properties?

I'm not sure a bigger pump is really that necessary. You're only increasing the surface area that the coolant is exposed to by increasing the length of the flow, not necessarily putting bigger flow channels/pipes through. So, for instance, a 1" garden hose 10' long will have the water come out the end just as fast as a 30' hose, it just takes longer to prime it, right? As long as our stock pump has the power to handle the extra pressure (which it seems it can based on the variety products that use the stock pump). We shouldn't need extra flow rate since the piping the feeds into and through the S/C stays the same diameter.

Haven't had the need as of yet. Thinking of doing a full high pressure fuel pump at some point with an e85 tune though.

You're ignoring the core as if it wouldn't affect flow at all, which isn't true. It has more channels for the coolant to flow through and that will affect the pump's performance to some degree. I still think the the pump will handle this fine and logs will reveal if an extra flowing pump will be needed or can add additional performance. There is a diminishing return on an upgraded pump because we don't want the coolant passing too fast through the core since it will spend less time dissipating the heat.
