    "JCodes" complete! finally!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Finally had time to do this, i'll post more pictures, but here is a teaser. The actual process was very easy, just have to take your time and be very careful, I used a heat gun and took me around 2hrs total.

i didn't want to paint the reflectors just incase I ever wanted to put them back to stock.
found some vinyl at the local auto parts store, it said "carbon fiber" but no way at all does it look like it, however it does have a nice weave pattern and heating it and molding it to the reflector I was very surprised and I'm very happy with the turn out, it actually compliments the carbon fiber supercharge badges.

So, what is the difference between J-Codes and E-Codes? I'm very familiar with E-Codes

E-codes are the entire headlamp assemblies with the clear corners. I'm not sure where the term J-code came from, but it's just opening the headlamp and painting or wrapping the amber turn signal.

I'm guessing J-codes came from the term Joey mod. Was a popular mod back in my gli days.

OP looks good man, this is definitely on my to do list.

That looks good. Thinking about doing the same to also clean out the condensation behind the glass.

The headlights are vented already. I did the j-code and didn't use any additional sealant when putting them back together. Never had any condensation or leaking.

Yes I did this on my TL and condensation on one headlight was always an issue.

Funny story though, first time I tried to open them I used and oven instead of a heatgun and the headlight melted. Forgot to put down a wet towel in there first.

I don't know if they are vented but I do know that the inside of the housing does not have compartments so when you take off the access cover the entire housing inside is exposed. I have the same issue with a headlight on my GTi but I never took the lens off. I'm convinced if I opened it up and popped it in the oven or dried it out somehow otherwise and forced the moisture it would take care of the problem. I think maybe whatever conditions the headlight was opened in will be encapsulated in it and if it's humid you'll get the issue.

no, the vinyl sticks really well, even if you mess up and have to peel off and adjust.
