The improvements in the MMI after 33.6 are very marginal. Personally I would just stick with the MMi version you have. However, if you are still using version 5 of the nav software then it is 10 years out of date and you should update that software.

Good advice by Kevin. But as he stated, if you are running that old maps, you should really look at new ones.

Also, the latest mmi is 4610 and the jump from where you are to the latest isn't that difficult.

As for your last question, well I have a Dension 500 installed and like it due to having the ability to leverage USB and other connector type at the same time. But I think they're both relatively equal.

YES...the VCDS is a great tool and something any and all Audi owners should have, imho.

You can get different option vs. the 'best' - RossTech VCDS. There is a much lower cost option offered via Carista OBD2 which only requires a cheap ELM327 Bluetooth adapters to work

Unless u r like me n want the latest OS with lates bug fixes, safety, refinements etc. even if it's close to trivial.
But then again would they do an update if it was trivial?

As for the VCDS. U r likely to get back 80% of sale price when it comes time to sell it.

Yes you can retrofit the facelift end, but it's quite a bit of money and work. Needs new trunk lid and maybe bumper? Don't know for sure. There's a thread of some guy from Spain who did it. Will let you know if I find it.

I'm with you.. I'm over the cds. I've been looking at the Denison Gateway 500 again after forgetting about it for a year. Looks like there are some improvements on it. Any thoughts on using that? It's much less expensive then the AMI retrofit.
Maybe you know more about it than I do- does the gateway offer the ability to steam music over Bluetooth? I've looked at their product page and I don't see a definitive and clear answer to that..

I've got a Dension 500 unit in my vehicle and use a tune2air for A2DP BT streaming of music, via the Dension unit. It works great and seamlessly with all the other MMI and BT functions of the vehicle.

Me neither. With my B7, it was as easy as enabling "aux" with a Vag-Com and buying like $10 worth of wires and an aux jack and connecting it all up to the rear of the head unit. Too bad it's not as easy here. :(

Watch eBay. I paid 220 for my AMI module. If you look through my post history I outlined exactly what you need at some point.

A6 or A8. You need one with the MOST fiber optic connection. The Q7 may have had it too. Look here for more info http://a6retrofit.com/ami-retrofit-a...sic-interface/
The part you need is 4E0 035 785 X with X being a letter, doesn't matter what it is, it's just a revision number.

I don't think it was ever standard. Not the one you need anyways.

Actually, AMI was an option starting in 2006. 2005 MY could not be retro fitted with AMI. I had a 2005 C6 and wanted to add the iPod and the Denison Gateway 500 was my only option.
