With a lot of free time on my hands, I've really been getting into shooting my car, so I decided to compile all my whoring from now on into one thread. As I'm just starting out, I always appreciate tips and suggestions on things to improve on.

Very nice! 376/378 without headlight beams on the concrete (drl's only, did you VAGCOM to have your taillights on all the time yet?)
246 try putting it earlier in the pullout so you see more twisty road? Not sure what it looks like there but maybe worth a shot?

PS: not really whoring since we get to watch for free

Looks kewl...I would try and edit the front LED's so they're not overpowering the whole front of the car...or are you just trying to hide ambers?

We have been having some great sunset opportunities in LA lately.

Where are the shots with downtown in the background? Is this off Angeles crest?

appreciate the tips! my car hasn't been vag'd yet so there's no way for me to have the taillights on without the headlights but i was thinking the whole time while editing, those shots would be much better without the headlight beams.

thanks mop. just taking a relaxing term after all the stress from the last couple months. it'll be back to the grind soon though.

i definitely agree, the leds are too distracting from the overall composition. i actually tried to edit them down but that was the best i could do given the original shots and my limited photoshop skills.

yes, all these are off angeles crest, which has become my go-to shooting location. i need a change of scenery. actually went scouting dtla on sunday and i ended up in skid row and the industrial district, neither places i'd want to be alone with the car and camera gear. haha.

Looking good. The stance is perfect too. IMO, 0207 is the best of that shoot but should have had the rings visible. I like that one the best because the DOF is shallow. Try playing around with shallow DOF when the foreground and background are not all that appealing or important. Looking forward to seeing more...

thanks man. correct me if i'm wrong, but i think with my lens (35mm f/1.0) the only way i can get really shallow dof is by being really close to the car. as soon as i move away from the car, i lose a lot of that subject/background separation. your thoughts?

yep, pretty much have an idea of all the standard stuff that can be done. my last car was vag'd..wonder what's taking me so long this time around.

I would say just how shallow do you want to go?

At 1.5 meters (6ft) your depth of field is about 7cm (3").
At 3 meters its still less than a foot.

Lol i understand. In a nutshell: with a lens that has a 1.0 f-stop, you can have a very shallow depth of field. The numbers i posted show that even if you are at 10 feet from your object you want in focus, you have an area of about a foot that will be in focus before it gets blurry. Thats less than a wheel size.

best way to see what it does: take the same picture, every time increasing the f-stop.

PS: I see on flickr that you actually have a 35mm/1.8f lens? At that 10ft the depth of field becomes 1.8ft vs. the 1ft at f-stop 1.0.

After spacers tinting is next. After tint my wife puts me on a leash.
