    Angry Timing belt HELP!!!! 2005 a4 b6 1.8t

Had my timing belt (kit) done at a local shop here in Phoenix and everything seemed fine for 4 days, I start my car today and heard rattling coming from the front of the engine. (WTF!!) turned car off. I peeled back the plastic cover for the timing belt and touched the belt and to my amazement, it was not very tight. Had my neighbor look at it (he knows more about cars then me) turned the engine back on, no noise this time. turned it off and then the timing belt is way tight like i assume it should always be? does the timing belt loosen when resting for 8 hours-ish? I wouldnt think so? maybe the tensioner is faulty? I purchased the kit from ecs tuning, figure that was a legit set. Cars back at shop and awaiting their call, Dont trust the mechanic now... any suggestions/help/tips are appreciated.

If the engine gets turned counterclockwise any at all it will make the TB feel loose. That can occur by simply turning the engine off and have one of the cylinder under compression before TDC and consequently the engine will reverse slightly. Perfectly normal and it happens all the time. That could explain the differences in tension. What it doesn't explain is the rattle coming from the front of the engine.

Lets see what the mechanic comes up with. The rattle could be a defective TB tensioner or it could be a bad idler pulley or tensioner on the serpentine belt.

    Good luck!

Mechanic said something on the tensioner wasnt fully "extended" and that he fixed it now, might have a faulty tensioner so I gotta keep an ear out for that noise
