So I recently fixed a few issues with my 1.8t. Things were good until I drove it to work ~ 50 miles away. When I pulled into the lot, tons of smoke was coming from underhood. I thought it might be the cam chain gasket or the half moon on the valve cover gasket. Both looked good. I threw an oil absorbant pad in there for the drive home. Took it all apart when I got home and resealed everything. Degreased the engine compartment because it had gotten everywhere. Took it for a spirited drive today to shake it down and had the same problem. WTF.
So when I got the car home I left it running and wiped everything down and started looking for leaks. The valve cover gasket was dry and holding, the cam chain tensioner gasket was dry and holding. Then I noticed that one of the three chrome set-balls in the aft-most part of the cam chain tensioner was weeping oil at idle. I wiped it down and watched it some more. The damn thing was leaking. I revved the engine a bunch and then hooked up VCDS and actuated the N205 a bunch of times (until it timed out). Now there was a mist of oil all over everything again around the back of the CCT.
I searched around on the internet but didn't see any related posts.
Just wanted to share my experience.
