What helps with the smoothness of the motor?

I'm havin issues with the cluster and when it's out, the smoothness of the motor is gone. When I let off the gas the car feels like I'm smashing the breaks and it slows down. Idk what causes it.

Are you unaware of engine braking?

I assume you mean in like 1st gear if you let off the throttle abruptly the car will jerk.... that's engine braking. With proper throttle control (ease off...) it won't happen. Also if your engine mounts are bad that will make it worse. New engine mounts made my car much more smooth.

The cluster thing.... no idea what you're talking about.

In my experience, going from DBC to DBW there's a HUGE difference in this effect. With DBW, at cruising speeds the gas pedal will barely be depressed, so even if you let off just a little you're likely to cause the engine to jerk. With DBC going the same speed, you'll be much further into the gas pedal and therefore it will be much easier to smoothly let off.
Obviously things like worn engine/tranny mounts will exacerbate this effect.

It might be harder with one or the other but regardless if you are smooth it isn't an issue. Tons of people drive DBW cars daily and tons drive older DBC cars. Either way, people manage to drive in traffic and such without giving themselves whiplash.

In relation to our cars, you'd know better than I would. I've only ever driven DBC B5s so can't really say if one is more difficult than the other. I'd imagine as with most anything related to cars, the #1 factor is still the "driver mod" haha.

There was a period of about 9 months where I had my 1998.5 A4 and 2001.5 A4. Two things were most noticeable to me when switching between them: 2001.5 takes a lot more effort to turn the steering wheel (not sure if that's by design) and throttle control on DBW sucks when it comes to smooth modulation. I could drive DBC (manual) so smoothly that even from a stop a girl could continue putting her makeup on without messing it up, now with DBW I have to foucs much harder to achieve the same goal, if I can achieve it at all.

The stock DBW pedal map is absolutely ridiculous, at low RPM there's basically no way to modulate it because it ramps up from nothing to half throttle nearly instantly. Luckily all it takes is some tweaks to your tune to fix that and make it more linear.

I'm am aware of engine braking. Use it more then my brakes. Normally I can let off and the car slows down smoothly. When I am having issues with the cluster, I let off and it feels like you are dumping the clutch and I get a thud noise. I know it doesn't make any sense. Trust me, im ping crazy looking for an issue.

you probably have bad mounts like stated in other posts and possibly bad inner CV joints.

The only time it drives like that is when the cluster goes out. When the cluster is working fine it drives smooth as ever. It makes no sence.

Ok, do he's saying when his cluster is working correctly the car drives as it should, but when it decides to shit itself the car runs terribly

Is this something Dave at Motoza could tweak?

Absolutely, tuners usually don't do it unless asked since it's a preference thing and doesn't actually affect performance.

this is exactly whats happening. when the cluster stops working, i also dont have any of the red interior lights. but the radio works and the climate control works, but those lights are dimmed.

Oils fine. It's switching a light switch. One second it runs perfect, then it doesn't. No in between.
