Im thinking about buying a 2009-2012 Audi A3 TDI, I was just wondering what are some of the common problems with the 2.0 turbo diesel engines? Did they make manuals for those years? Does the TDI have the Quattro awd? And should I not get the TDI and stick with the normal engine? Any feed back will be helpful, thank you.

It's a good car, the wife and I like it. Avg mpg around 34-35. Unfortunately no traditional manual transmission or Quattro. Dumb...
Anyway as for common problems, none I'm aware of that aren't a result of neglecting preventative maintenance.
I'd recommend getting one. Plus there are plenty of mods out there to empty that wallet

I'm in the same boat and was wondering if there were any issues with the TDI motors and it replacement parts are going to cost an arm and a leg. LOL

Just got an 2012 about a month ago. Its a good car not many options like for powertrain like Euro Vs. Earth mentioned. All have a DSG, i think some come with paddles and thats about it.

If the DPF goes bad, which it will in time it will and its a costly part. Exhaust upgrades for diesels are beautiful in the fact that they increase HP and torque and improve gas mileage. A turbo back exhaust upgrade from Rawtek/Malone can double your torque putting you close to 400lb ft. and it eliminates the DPF/EGR problem and the car will run better. Or you could go nuts and look @ Darkside and go 300HP+
