a6 vs allroad REAR spindle differences?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know the front knuckles are a little taller on the allroad but what about the rear ones? Are they the same as an a6

The plan is right now, I am doing a rear larger brake conversion using s6 brakes. I already confirmed that on the allroad if I plan on using the s6 rear rotors I would need a 1/8in spacer made up to go on the hub face to make up the difference in offset between the s6 hubs and the allroad ones. I believe there are cars that come with the proper offset to run these rotors but I think its year and Vin dependent

Conveniently I have a pair of aluminum rear spindle/wheel bearing assembly from the "s6" I just need to know if they should be a bolt on affair for for the allroad or are they an inch shorter like the front knuckles?
Sorry for the ramble but I figured I'd give the story so my question makes sense

Considering that a good chunk of 01 allroads were made with A6 rear "spindles" and only later they changed to allroad specific (I suspect only bushings were beefed up) I would say that they are the same. But feel free to dig in ETKA of course.

That's what I'm assuming too since the upper and lower control arms mount to the rear subframe not the chassis. Well maybe I'll let you know for sure tonight.

Yeah they fit, just had to shave the bevel off the toe link
On the allroad iron hubs the tie rod/ toe link mounts only from one point so it has a bevel on one end of the bushing. On the aluminum hubs it gets pinched between the 2 points I took a picture of . the part numbers differ so idk if the v8 ones will fit. I won't know for sure until I have everything tight

In retrospect it would be a lot easier to just buy allroad v8 rear caliper brackets(impossible to find)or possibly just ar v8 rotors? ..unless you really want aluminum hubs(which are cool) I like to make shit difficult

Maybe you just needed V8 tierods?

Maybe. It sucked I had to scrap the v8 car the day before I did this project so I had no chance to take the tie rods. I completely forgot. I'd assume they are the same length as allroad ones but you never know. Shaving the bevel off the allroad ones worked fine. Took 5 min with a grinder and a file

All the rear tie rods are the same length that I have seen. The vertical distance between the upper and lower pivot points is different on the allroad rear wheel bearing housing. This would allow for greater wheel travel without the roll center moving too far up at level 3.

I believe they are the same. Both measure 8inches apart from center of bolt home to center of bolt hole if that's what you mean?

I'll measure the allroad housing and the A6 one I have on the bench. They are different.

This link shows what I've found. The caliper mounting geometry is different:

I have both also. They are the same. Either way. I've had my allroad in level 4 a few times since I did the hubs and have no issues at all
