Getting a B7 vs. B8, and Effectiveness of Performance Mods

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As a former Audi owner (2005 S4), I am now considering getting back into one, to replace my 432 RWHP Holden Commodore SSV clone. My first question is, should I go with the new build of the Audi line, B8, or B7? What are the pro's and con's for each? Second, get the V8, or the V6? Lastly, what's the best bang for the buck performance upgrade specifically for these Audis? Right now I am looking at S4's and S5's, as the S6 are a bit out of my reach for a used DD. Since I value acceleration and highway passing over top end speed, I am looking for something that can run in the mid-4's 0-60, and at least high 12's for the quarter. Thanks!

Get the 3.0T . You will achieve what you want for cheaper than the V8. The B7 S4 is exactly like your 2005 you owned. The B8 with stage 2 will get you low 12's.

The B8/3.0T by a landslide. The B8 with a tune/pulley (also known as Stage 2) is much faster than even the B7 RS4. The B7 S4 is no comparison.

With the B8 and a tune/pulley, you are looking at low 12s or even high 11s in optimal conditions, and many have hit high 3's for 0-60. Near 400whp.

I am just east of Upper Marlboro, MD, so about 20 miles east of DC. Here is a link to the ad I put on Craigslist:

Someone on here is selling a 2007 S4 with 36K miles and the following mods:

    DTM rear bumper
    JHM Tune
    JHM Intake Spacers
    JHM Lightweight Crank Pulley
    Labree Catback with 14" resonators
    Milltek 2.5" catless downpipes
    Cupra R Lip
    RS4 Grill
    ST Coilovers

Would you still recommend I keep looking for a B8 over this?

Yes. Thats a decent list but if your looking for what you stated, that will not accomplish it.

Yes. That B7 will be about as fast as a stock B8. Plus you have to worry about the timing chains on the B6/B7 4.2 which are guaranteed to fail at some point. That requires a $$$ engine out service. Also scored cylinder walls.
