Hello,
This my first real post here . . .
I was driving my wife's 2009 A4 Avant (2.0T) on the highway last night and the EPC light came (staid on steady) on along with vibration and rough running. I got off the highway immediately and the car was idling very roughly and the engine light (yellow engine shaped light) came on as well. I wasn't far from home and was without a cell phone so I limped home and parked it. The car has about 80K miles BTW
This AM I connected an OBD code reader to it and pulled P0300 (multiple missfires) ,P0301(missfire cylinder1),P0302(miss cyl2),P03004(miss cyl4) codes from it. After a bit of reading a decided to purchase 4 new coil packs and 4 new spark plugs (import autoparts store, dealer is closed on Sunday) to hopefully solve the problem. New items installed and the engine is still idling/running roughly. I cleared the codes and drove it around the neighborhood and the EPC light came back on and there is now only a P0302 code showing.
I then decided to remove the new coil packs and plugs. Cylinder number 2 plug was wet and dark. To eliminate any issue with the new parts I moved #2 the spark plug to cylinder 3 and the #2 coil pack to cylinder 1. Upon restart, the engine still ran roughly and a second P0302 code showed up. Pulled the packs and the plugs again, and cylinder #2 is dark and wet. Basically, coil packs and plugs are OK, problem stays with #2 cylinder.
The #2 plug and cylinder doesn't smell particularly gassy so this really worries me that it is oil (major internal engine issue) rather than unburnt gas. Still, the car previously showed multiple misfires and replacing the coils seems to have shortened the list to just cylinder 2. Also the EPC light still comes on.
Anyone have any insight??
I will most likely be taking the car to the dealer tomorrow and it would be nice to have some ideas.
Thanks
Eric
PS: This car has oil consumption issues and has had the stage 1 work done. Improved for a while but now consuming again. Dealer started a consumption test about a month ago. Oil level didn't budge for a week or two and then started going down steadily. I strongly suspect they over filled and it just took a while to drop below max. . .Thought I would throw this info out there.
