    Alignment concerns?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had an alignment done on Friday. First time and the car has 38k miles. I just put on its third set of tires. The first set were the Pirelli PZero Rosa tires which only lasted 12k miles. I then did Michelin Pilot Super Sports that got 26k miles. Now I am on Hankooks.
The Michelins in front were wearing really badly. Inside and outside shoulders were shredding.
So, for the alignment, the left toe front and rear was out of spec by a bunch and the right rear camber was out. After alignment all those are back in spec which is great.

The part that has me concerned is the front Camber. It is at -1.4(L) and -1.2(R) but factory range is -0.3 to -1.1. There is no camber adjustment on the front of these cars stock. I'm not lowered, but I have changed the sway bar and added the alu kruez. Would these really mess up my camber? If it is not the sway and alu kruez messing up my camber, then what is the cause of it?

From my experience working in a full service shop (Service manager for NTB for a couple years) camber normally has to be out a fairly decent ammount to contribute to wear issues. One to two tenths normally wouldn't cause that much of an issue. Toe on the other hand can tear through tires extremely rapidly. Even more so if the car is fighting itself somehow.

Normal suspension wear can cause issues with it being out of spec, but that is fairly rapid with your mileage. Check your upper control arms for any issues, as they are a common problem with the b8 platform. May be part of your issues.

I'm guess wear of the arms aswell, but bit odd it is on both sides.
*just had aligment and the right was bit off...year ago i hit wooden block on the road on that side...even tough i asked repairshop to check if it was still in specs...grr.
If it is springwear i guess you could messure it (center wheel <-> fender).
Bit sad B8 doesn't have front chamber (lowered here and don't really want to buy adjustment set).

Are you front wheel driven or quattro?

    I'm quattro.

So sounds like the out of camber at the front a is a bit normal

I'm lowered stubek, so 'normal' for me. You are out and left-right the same by just a very bit so personally i wouldn't worry too much. Additionally you have quattro so won't experience extra wear compaired to front traction car.
    Anyway, just my opinion :).

Just wondering Stubek, did you have any road noise issues with the PSS's toward the end of their life. I'm at about 25k on mine and I'm getting a slight thumping sound at slower speeds, vibration at 70 mph, and a lot of road noise. I had my tires balanced not too long ago but they seems to be getting progressively worse. Worts thing is at 80 mph and above they're smooth. If you've got any input it would be much appreciated.

Oh yeah and the camber issue you've got is about the same as my wife's Jetta on OE Sports. She's at -1.3 on both side right now too. Get some higher mileage tires and rotate them at no more than 5k. At that low mileage I'm sure your suspension should be fine but I'd have it looked at either way since you're still under warranty.

    I didn't think I had any road noise with the PSS, but now with the Hankook Evo12 v2, it is a lot quieter. Not sure if the PSS were always loud or it happened so gradually I didn't notice it;

26k sounds pretty reasonable for the PSS's. I'm entering the 20s on mine. I do believe these tires do get harder and noisier towards the end. Other than the quieter ride, how are you liking the Hankook Evo12 v2s vs the PSS's?
Couldn't hurt to check the control arms as mentioned. A few pot holes could mess up your alignment I suppose btw.

I would think the uneven wear on the PSS's would also contribute to more road noise, especially cupping caused by toe problems.
