    4.2 alternator R&R

    can someone point me in the direction of a decent write up? mines been weird for a little bit and finally died. it looks like it can be done without service mode from the bottom. . .

    Wish I could run through it step by step- but when I did the oil cooler pipe last fall on ol' lady's S6 I think I had the alternator out in like 15 minutes.
    It's like:
    Jack up front.
    Remove that plastic pan.
    Disconnect battery.
    Wrench on tensioner to slacken belt, then just slip belt off the Alt pulley (leave belt in place)
    Two bolts, like almost every alternator install ever- one on top, kinda hard to finger, but you'll get it.
    Remove the cooling duct and two wires from alternator.
    Wiggle it out.

    this is glorious news i saw places saying service mode was required.
