Anyone else out there get as frustrated with that question as me? I wish there was a way to remove that inane prompt.

Honestly I don't know what you are talking about. Maybe it's a feature in the B8.5 unit? I have the Nav (no camera) and B&O system in my B8 and it just dials the number straight away unless there are multiple entries and it just asks for a line number.

Go into the MMI Setup from the main menu and under voice recognition, change the voice dialog setting to short. By default it's set to long, which gives you all these extra "are you sure?" prompts.

That's true, it does, but it does not remove that unnecessary prompt in my original post, if you say dial Joe, it should either dial Joe or ask to select which number and then dial. What possibly could be the point of asking the driver if he wants to dial the number when that is the reason the car is talking to you in the first place. In other words, the only reason to answer no to the question would be solved by the selection of name from the list of similar names which is already accomplished.

I suppose that prompt is there to avoid accidentally calling the wrong number in case it didn't understand the name correctly. I only get that prompt if the contact only has one number or I direct it to call a specific number, for example "call Joe Smith home". If I just say "call Joe Smith" and Joe has multiple numbers, then it shows me all the numbers and as soon as I pick the line it dials immediately. I figured in that case the prompt is unnecessary, because it already showed you the contact and you confirmed that it is the correct one, by selecting the line. Is that what it does for you?

Ding, ding, ding! I used to get annoyed when a car would ask "Are you sure you want to call <insert name here>?" until it starts to grab contacts that are completely incorrect...then I became thankful that it didn't just automatically dial the contact it selected.

I have never gotten the prompt for "are you sure" in my S4 and I also have never been able to get it to dial a specific number like "Call Joe Smith home". I always have to wait for the list to display and then I say the line number. Now I have to go try it and see if I can get it to work.

For this to work, your phone has to sync the numbers correctly with the associated types. I've read that with at least some versions of Android for example, all phone numbers get synced as mobile, so if the contact has multiple numbers, the MMI thinks they are all cell phones, so it always prompts you. If the numbers get synced correctly you should get distinct icons next to the numbers that indicate mobile, home, business, business fax, home fax and and they are always displayed in that order as in the following example.
