Trunk won't open while engine running?

I'm not sure if this is normal or just a minor annoyance from Audi but if my 2010 S4 is running and in park, the only way to open the trunk is if I use the lever on the driver's side door. Otherwise if the car is not running I can use the fob or the switch on the trunk when it's unlocked. Is this normal?

Yes, it's annoying but you need to unlock all doors from the driver door for the trunk to unlock as well. It won't just unlock from the "advanced" key.

Damn...this is embarrassing...I owned MonSoonHell since February 2012 and never knew this feature. Not that I deem it a big deal to use the lever on the door. I normally have to go into my trunk while in the car, so upon exiting the car I pull the lever in one quick motion. I will try the unlock button feature. Thanks for the information. I love this forum...!

Its dependent on if in MMI its set to unlock all doors or just one. If its set to unlock all doors when the drivers door is open then the trunk unlocks.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

if it's only when it's running but functions normally when the car is off, it's the setting in the MMI

It's probably a feature to not allow someone else to open your trunk at a light or when you are stationary.
